Fault Finding Tables


BEFORE CARRYING OUT ANY OF THE FOLLOWING
INVESTIGATIONS THE FACE MASTER MUST BE PARKED ON
LEVEL GROUND WITH ALL MOVING PARTS SECURED
AGAINST RUNAWAY. ALL POSSIBLE CARE MUST BE TAKEN
WHEN PERFORMING THE TESTS.
Do not attempt to repair everything yourself. Unfamiliarity or
the wrong tools can be the cause of greater damage.

No pressure
FAULT PROBABLE CAUSE ACTION

Insuff. Pump cap. Air entering suction line Seal suction line
Too high pump temperature Pump damaged viscosity of fluid too low Replace/repair
Change hydr. oil
Pump rpm too low insuff.
or engine capacity Pump gear box or engine damage Repair/replace

Leakage from press.


To return lines Wrong pressure setting. Apply correct press.
Valve not closing. Blockage by dirt or particles. Clean valve.
Damaged cylinder bore, piston rod or piston seals. Assess damage.
Repair. Replace

Hydr. oil temperature too high. Cool oil to 50 C.

No pilot pressure or insufficient pilot pressure Check pilot press.

Hydraulic oil – Temperature too high


FAULT PROBABLE CAUSE ACTION

Insufficient cooling Cooler motor damaged Clean and repair or replace


damaged components
Cooler fins dirty and blocked Clean cooler fins
Hydraulic fluid circulating
too fast Fluid level in tank too low Replenish hydraulic oil to required
level
Fluid is dumped to tank Malfunction of valve caused by dirt Clean and repair or replace
via valves under pressure or damaged components damaged components

Pressure setting too low Adjust to right pressure setting

Noises from pumps – no oil supply

Pump rotation in wrong Suction and pressure line Change connections

Hydraulic fluid frothing Fluid level too low Replenish to level.


Wrong hydraulic fluid Replace with correct hydraulic oil.

Air entering suction line Check and tighten connections

Engine defective Damaged or worn-out Repair/replace

Mechanical vibrations Couplings damaged or misaligned. Repair or align as required

Vibrations caused by swinging Tighten connection or replace

This list cannot cover all the possible faults that may occur in the Face Master Rig, the operator must
allways be observant in identifying any unusual occurances. Do not attempt to repair everything
Yourself, if you are not fully familiar with the item or do not have the right tools you may cause greater
damage. It is no disgrace not to be familiar with every machine.
