Due to rising consumer worries about hygiene, the introduction of modern and efficient
equipment, an increase in consumer living standards, rising income levels, and the prevalent
practice of having numerous vacuum cleaners in a family, the market for household vacuum
cleaners is developing. One of the significant developments in the household vacuum
cleaners industry is the introduction of energy-efficient and environment friendly vacuum
cleaners. In the next years, improvements in vacuum cleaner efficiency are likely to give
substantial development prospects for the household vacuum cleaners industry. The growing
understanding of the benefits of vacuum cleaner use is encouraging low-income families to
invest in vacuum cleaners.

In the following study we are discussing about the I Robot Roomba vacuum cleaner which is
a Wifi connected a 3-Stage Cleaning System with Dual Multi-Surface Brushes to help
thoroughly clean floors. The consumers of this product finds this as a healthy investment to
their house to keep it clean and healthy. The company after going through certain surveys and
analyzing the consumer behavior came to know about certain drawback with the product
which the consumer finds as disadvantage factors of the product.

These drawbacks include:

a) Loud Noise: The first issue found with the product which the customer conveyed to the
company through consumer is the loud noise which the vacuum cleaner generates few
months after the purchase of the product. These noise is a result of getting stuck with
unwanted particles such as plastic materials, dust, waste thread etc. The noise made by the
vacuum cleaner is considered ad an interruption to the customer.

b) Doesn’t go over liquids: Another customer feedback about the product is that it doesn’t go
over liquids such as water. Because of the following reason it cannot be used in kitchens
where there is water spills and other areas of house. It can be considered as incomplete work
done if the machine is not able to clean the entire house. It creates a lot of difficulties
especially for senior citizen who can’t do all works on their own.

c) The size of the bin in the machine is considered small. It requires the customer to clean the
bin 2-3 times a day. The bin size is not enough to collect all the dust and waste in a house.
Therefore the habitants are not able to clean their house at one single stretch. Along with this,
due to quick filling of the bin, it also creates stinky odour which is considered as a
disadvantage to the product.

d) Not good for rough ground: Another drawback to the product which the customer finds is
that it is not running smoothly on rough ground. The wheels of the vacuum cleaner are not
adjustable to uneven and stony ground layers. Because of this consumer cannot use this
product on rough ground specially their warehouse, garage and other storage space.

e) Device can’t find its way home: When the battery starts to run out of juice the vacuum is
supposed to return automatically to its charging base. It works fine most of the time, but it
often find a rogue robot vacuum stranded in the middle of the house because it couldn’t find
its way home. Some models have a much bigger problem with this than others.

f) You still need to vacuum: The robot vacuum is great at automated, general cleanliness, but
there are still nooks and corners it just won’t be able to get to. Owning a robot vacuum will
significantly reduce the need to vacuum, but you will still need to vacuum the old-fashioned
way periodically, so you can’t just replace or throw away your old vacuum.

g) Cost: Robot vacuums start in the $250 range for some of the Deebot models, and go up to
near $1,000 for the latest Roomba robot vacuums. The Dyson 360 Eye is expected to cost
more than $1,000. On the low end, it isn’t significantly more than an average traditional
vacuum, but it’s still extravagant when you consider that you still also need to keep that old
vacuum around as well.

These are the drawbacks which are found in general and with regard to Roomba robot
vacuum cleaner. The company need to find solution for these problems so as to increase the
sale of the product in the market. But the pandemic is considered as an opportunity for the
vacuum cleaner industry. As the habitants spend, majority of their time in the house due to
curfew restrictions, there is a necessity to clean their house frequently. Especially the houses
occupied by senior citizen requires the support of AI assisted vacuum cleaners to keep their
home clean and hygiene. In 2021, the cleaning robots segment to account for the largest share
of the robotic vacuum cleaner market. Based on type, the robotic vacuum cleaner market is
segmented into cleaning robots, mopping robots, and hybrid robots. The cleaning robots
segment is estimated to account for the largest share in 2021 due to the inexpensive nature of
these cleaners. Additionally, traditional infrastructure transformation to new homes &
commercial spaces that support smart appliances drives the market.
