Wood Pulp RRL

Wood pulp is a lignocellulosic fibrous material and is made by

extracting the cellulose fibers from the wood. Fibrous parts of
plants, primarily trees are all good source of pulp as the main
ingredient in paper making process and all sorts of paper
products like napkins, toilet paper, cups, and newspaper.
Fišerová, Gigac, Stankovska, and Opalena (2019) conducted a study
on the influence of softwood and hardwood kraft pulps in the
properties of tissue paper and stated that the fiber quality
contributes to the quality of the tissue, influencing attributes
such as softness, water absorption, and strength.
The two main methods in order to produce wood pulp are chemical
and mechanical pulping. Chemical pulping is also known as “kraft”
pulping and its resulting wood pulp is suitable for making
thicker paper products such as writing paper, paper cups and
paper bags. While the wood pulp produced from mechanical pulping
is suitable for tissue and newspaper or weaker paper which is
prone to discoloration due to a high residual of lignin.
