1. What are some Confucius quotes and their meanings?

Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it. – Confucius This quote means that every part and
person of the world is beautiful, but not everyone focuses on it, or glances at the beauty.

The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones. - Confucius

This philosophy means that when you make a goal, start little and eventually it will take you a long way

By three methods may we learn wisdom; First, by reflection, which is the noblest; Second by imitation,
which is the easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.

This quote tells us the three methods to learn and which is the easiest, noblest and hardest.

” When it is obvious that the goals cannot be reached, don't adjust the goal, adjust the action steps.
“This quote means when you are trying to get to or complete a goal and you won't make it, adjust the
plan, and keep moving forward

It is easy to hate, and difficult to love. This is how the whole scheme of things works. All good things are
difficult to achieve, all bad things are easy to get.

Confucius is saying that all good things are difficult to get, but it is worth it. He is also saying that hate is
easy to get, and to try to block out the hate, and this happens because of human nature

2. Confucius wrote, "When the Superior Man eats, he does not try to stuff himself." Is this meant to
be taken literally? If so, why?

Yes

The superior man is confident in himself and his food source, and if you are confident in yourself and
your ability to find meals you won’t feel the need to suff yourself with extra food you will know that
there will still be plenty of food around later. An “inferior man” would have less resource or less time or
organization and would be less assured in his ability to acquire food later. Also it was common
knowledge back then that eating too much was very unhealthy and that stuffing your self was bad.

3. What's the 'Superior Man' according to Confucius?

The superior man is a man that stays true to himself. In that, he cultivates aspects of himself that cannot
be stolen or sold. The inferior man cultivates aspects of himself for the sake of image and worldly value.
In staying true to oneself the superior man understands the value of empowerment. The superior
man of Confucius possesses three virtues: Intelligence, courage and. goodwill.
4. What did Confucius mean when he said, "The superior man thinks always of virtue; the common
man thinks of comfort"? What do virtue and comfort mean in this context?

Virtue in this context is the good of others (the family, the community, the state), and comfort would be
that which benefits yourself. Most people will not routinely sacrifice their own best interest for the
interest of others especially not those he or she has never and may never meet. Even today, one of the
characteristics of eastern thought vs western thought is that we put the individual first and the
community second, they put the community first, and the individual third.

5. What have you learned from Confucius?

I learned that as a person in a society which must always act in good faith, wear our dignity, bring honor
and do good with sincerity towards other people.

6. What is the meaning of this quote? "Ability will never catch up with the demand for it" (Confucius)

“Ability will never catch up with the demand for it “, means people will be always demanding, asking or
searching for skill or capacity to do do something. To be precise, the need or requirement for ability is
always much more than ability itself.
