SERVICE BULLETIN
DATE: March 15, 2001 Supersedes S.B. 134A dated 4/22/94
Since the release of the D series fuel injection pump, Stanadyne has used several
different methods of detecting and deterring internal tampering. Many of these
tamper resistant methods incorporate the use of the governor cover screws. Three
different designs of governor cover screws and tamper resistant arrangements have
been employed to accomplish this task. NOTE: For additional information on
Tamper Resistant methods reference Service Bulletins 365 and 511.
Originally lead plumb sealing wires were fed through a hole in the head of the rear
governor cover screw and fixed to the pump to resist tampering. This arrangement
was eliminated due to the environmental and health concerns related to lead. The
hex head, slotted, governor cover screw is shown in Figure 1.
Figure 1
A tamper resistant cup and cap arrangement was then incorporated (see Figure 2) in
conjunction with a new style of governor screw. Removal of the tamper resistant cap
damages both the cap and the cup, providing evidence of tampering. The governor
cover screw was changed to a Torx recess (size T-25) screw P/N 33261. The screw
incorporates an integral washer face beneath the head, permitting elimination of the
11582 lockwashers and 13521 plain washers on certain applications.

In order to detect tampering the tamper resistant cup and cap arrangement is
used on the rear cover screw. The IPR tamper resistant screw also incorporates
the integral washer beneath the screw head, as in the previous screw type,
eliminating the need for additional washers on certain applications.
Figure 2
Insert the rear cover screw into the 30788 cover screw cup, and into any washers
required on the specification, then install into the rear cover screw as shown in
Figure 2. Tighten all cover screws to 35-45 lbf-in (4.0-5.1 N·m).
Insert a cover screw cap, P/N 30931, with the hollow side down into the cover cup
using thumb pressure.

Removal
To remove the tamper resistant cap, distort the steel cup using a pair of pliers, to
create a gap between the plastic cap and the interior of the cup. Insert a 16504 or
similar small bladed screwdriver into the gap between the cup and the cap and
pry the cap out of the cup.
Pumps received for service having previous 12202 and 22351 hex head cover
screws do not require replacement of these screws unless they are damaged.
When replacement is necessary, Stanadyne recommends replacement of the hex
head type screws with complete sets of the Torx recess design (P/N 33261).
Pump specifications which utilize a sealing wire between the rear cover screw
and the torque screw cap may be accommodated with the use of sealing laquer at
the screw locknut/housing interface area.
