CARPENTRY
Learning Outcomes:
1. Explain with understanding the different safety standards to be observed by every
carpenter while working in the laboratory
2. Discuss the use of each hand tool.
3. Classify each carpentry tool and demonstrate the proper use and handling of each
carpentry tool.
4. Plan a woodwork project.
5. Perform a joinery woodwork projects.

DISCUSSION
This module will introduce the following topics in carpentry to the students such as
classification of tools and materials in carpentry, the principles of carpentry, the safety standards,
the joinery, and the planning of woodwork projects.
Let us formally grasps the different concepts in carpentry. Kindly listen very well during
our discussion and you may refer to the material uploaded on google classroom to serve as your
reference in answering questions and doing activities intended for this module.
After learning the different concepts in carpentry it is your turn to show your learnings by
completing the activities below.
ASSESSMENT:
Kindly answer the questions and perform the following activities given below to the best
of your knowledge and skills.
1. Calculate board feet.
2. Make a plan of a woodwork project that would be useful at home.
3. Perform woodworking joinery.
Activity 1: BOARD FEET CALCULATION

Direction: Calculate board feet of the following items:
1. 1 piece 10” × 10’ × 1” = _____________ BF
2. 1 piece 8” × 6’ × 2” = _____________ BF
3. 2 pieces 6” × 6” × ½” = _____________ BF
4. 1 piece 1’ × 1’ × 1” = _____________ BF

Activity 2: PROJECT PLAN

Direction: Each of you will create a woodworking project of your own choosing. As your guide
for this activity, the following requirements are provided below:

Requirements:

 Sketch a simple picture of the project.

 Use two different thicknesses of wood.

 Dimensions will vary–3 sizes minimum.

 Calculate a cost for each piece of wood

Activity 3: WOODWORK JOINERY

Direction: Perform the five common types of wood joinery at school and bring the following
materials and tools below:
