Introduction:-

Adelwise is an investment banking company which was established at the time of opening up of the
Indian economy in 1991. Despite facing numerous challenges, rarely did it waver from the nine
gems of principles.The nine gems are: it is a learning organization, people first- the employees are
treated with respect, teamwork and collaboration, customers as partners in growth, focus on
long-term, focus on reputation, compliance to the law of the land, listening to customers, and
listening to employees.To support their sales and trading activities, investment banks hired and
maintained a large staff of research analysts. Edelweiss is a leading expert on wireless
carriers.Adelwise made a huge profit and Tomar had a role in it. He wants every work to be as
perfect as it can .He personally scrutinizes every word and. He is very passionate.Sometimes he
even scolds analysts and makes them work to do again and again.He gives little freedom in
workplace. The private operators became eligible to apply for cellular licenses in 2000 which
created a greater demand for research into the business of cellular operations. Many mobile
communication companies' wanting Adelwise to research them. Recently James Joseph along with
Reena Narang, Ramu Sharma, and Durga Panda is working on on a deal with VP Ashish Toran.
Reena, Ramu and Joseph share their experience and views on working with VP Ashis
Toran.Everyone has some sort of bitterness towards Tomar.Tomar gave one assignment to Joseph to
complete overnight which typically novice took 3 days to complete. Though he completed the work
with the help of few experienced staff work but Tomar was unsatisfied with his work and told him
to do again by providing additional information which would have helped him,had he provided this
information earlier.Once Ramu was on a conference call and was unable to answer the
question.Tomar became enraged and started screaming and threw a calculator which later on he
apologies for his action.Durga asserted that he usually forces people to do useless and menial
tasks.Toran not trust his analyst and cross check the work often.Toran reported directly to the
President Vinod nagpal. Nagpal came across as a generous person, seasoned in office politics, with
a legacy of attracting high-value clients and a man of numbers. Associates have no chance to meet
him directly and is available during a significant client briefing or deal finalizing.Nagpal is polite
and would listen to people and help them get training and exposure so that they can do their job
better.Nagpal would never like people to overstep their line of responsibilities and protocol.After
gathering all the information Joseph is thinking about his future course of action.

Situation analysis:-

James Joseph is an associate at the investment bank Adelwise. He is working on a deal along with
Reena Narang, Ramu Sharma, and Durga Panda for VP Ashish Toran.Joseph is aware about the
challenges in investment banking career and is ready to slog for 16 hours but the experience with
his boss demoralises him. He knows that investment banking is not for faint hearted people.Joseph
witnessed Toran's insulting and derogatory behaviour toward other associates and analysts.Joseph
Personality has a dark triad which means he is Psychopathy and Narcissism.He is extraversion and
very assertive.He keeps on pushing the employee and discomfort them.He lacks concern for others
and is arrogant. He has a grandiose sense of self-importance, does excessive scrutiny, and possesses
a sense of entitlement.There are many instance in which he tells lie so that the work gets completed
before time.He wants profit at all cost.For that he made employees to work all night .He demands
complete perfection and treats subordinates as if they were subservient to him and only him.This
leads to decrease in motivation and enthusiasm among analyst and decreases their job satisfaction.
Despite his poor people skills, Toran is a solid banker.After becoming vice president, Toran's
swagger and bravado increased exponentially.Nagpal shows a agreeableness character and he is
good natured he values the work and cooperation .He is more ruthless to his subordinates than his
peers.Joseph is conscientious while Reena Narang, Ramu Sharma, and Durga Panda choose to be
silent.Tey all are experiencing emotional labor and felt emotions and displayed emotions are
different Joseph is willing to improve the situation. He wants to talk about his supervisor's
questionable behaviour.

Statement of Objectives:-

Deciding the right path for Mr. Joseph for his career growth.

Assumption:-

1) Information given by other associates and colleagues are correct. i.e. No one is lying.

Mr. Joseph is not happy with the behavior of VP Mr. Tomar

Decision criteria: Job satisfaction,Recognition of work,Situation demands immediate


attention ,work culture,behavior

Generating Alternatives:

1) Joseph can have one on one discussion with Tomar face by face and resolve the
issues.
2) Joseph can have a one on one discussion with President Nagpal.
3) To quit the work
4) Convince the subordinate analyst to talk about the matter with higher authorities.
5) Do nothing and let the situation improve by itself.

Evaluating Alternatives:-

1) Since Joseps is quite stubborn .It is highly unlikely that he will change his behavior.
2) Meeting Nagpal is very difficult and he can’t afford to wait because the situation might get
more complicated.
3) Simply quitting the job is not an option .He has the character of making a change.
4) This alternative seems to work
5) wait and watch policy is not efficient as situations go beyond control.

Solutions:

Joseph needs to convince his subordinates first to raise their voice .After reaching a mutual
agreement they can raise the issues to higher authorities.where authorities can make the plan
to change the behavior of Tomar.First authorities need to create awareness why tomar needs
to change his behavior. If Tomar perceived the seriousness and susceptibility of his behavior
which leads to perceived threat then he is likely to change his behavior.Higher authorities
can show the advantages if he changes his behavior.Authorities needs to give confidence to
tomar that he has the ability to maintain the changes.

Contingency Plan:-

If Tomar behavior didn't change then joseph can quit the work and find the new one because
he has given his best in organisation and not get recognise for his work. Job satisfaction is at
utmost priority for him.
