WSR Sites safety arrangement for shut down due to New Year Festival

This letter is to ensure and maintain site safety for the upcoming site shutdown due to New Year
festival. Following major issues have been found during the site visit by the Engineer.

Aranayaka WSR

1. All the entrance points should be closed to prevent accessing unauthorized persons.

2. Excavated Chamber pits should be closed temporarily and hard barricading should be done. Rain
water should not be entered into the pits.

3. Water Stagnant places should be closed properly to prevent entering water.


4. Remove waste and flammable materials to reduce the risk of arson. Site should be cleaned.

5. Material and equipment which are closer to the slope protection wall should be removed.
Tharana WSR

1. Hard barricading should be done to prevent accessing unauthorized people.

2. During the shutdown, proper water supply should be provided to the site for the drinking
purposes as well as for the curing of newly casted WSR walls.
Dodanthale WSR

1. All the exposed earth slopes should be covered with tarpaulin.


2. Curing should be continued for the shotconcreting.

Batawala WSR

1. Earth slopes should be covered properly with tarpaulin.

Kottawatta WSR

1. Earth slopes should be covered properly with tarpaulin.

2. Water should not allow to trap inside the retaining wall pit.
Gevilipitiya WSR

1. Hard barricading should be done at the entrance to prevent accessing unauthorized people
Further, please be noted that the above mentioned issues are not the only issues to be attended at the
sites. Hereby, the Engineer advised the Contractor to ensure the site safety and secure as possible with
the above observations and general instructions as given below.

1. Check the perimeter fencing is in place and secure.


2. Lock up all entrance points to prevent unauthorized access.
3. Site should be cleaned and free from waste and flammable materials.
4. Excavation pits should be temporary closed and hard barricade should be done.
5. Remove unwanted ladders and access to scaffolding and platforms.
6. Safety signs and warnings should be placed at the site where necessary. Construction signs not
applicable during site inactivity should be covered or removed.
7. All the sites shall be provided with good quality water for drinking purposes and for curing
purpose. It is Contractors responsibility to continue the curing work during the shutdown.
8. Places where water can stagnant should be closed.
