Course Reflection Paper

1. The Fryer textbook

I feel like this textbook was more engaging especially with the assignment of having to

write seven annotations and an additional two questions to each chapter. The textbook did a very

well job in transitioning and also bringing up past theories that was talked in previous chapters.

The discussions also were very helpful considering other students would bring up similarities to

past theories with those theories and those specific chapters. This textbook was also a very easy

read and did not give me that much complications except for understanding a particular theory

which I was able to fix by asking other students to help me understand it in a different

perspective.

2. The Perusall Discussion Format

This was my first experience with Perusall discussion format. It was a bit confusing in the

beginning but as the week continue to progress, I was starting to understand how to write my

annotations and questions. It was great to also view and discuss with other classmates on what

was read in the textbook because it gave me a better understanding of what I was reading most of

the time whenever I was confused. Being able to participate in this discussion format also

showed me the different perspectives and how one person viewed something in a particular way

while someone else viewed is as another. It was really interesting but I’m looking forward to

doing something similar like this in the future.

3. The Planet Jockey Moral Minefield Simulation

The Planet Jockey Moral Minefield simulation was actually really helpful in learning

more about this course and especially tied in very well with the readings in our book. Each level

had five different scenarios and each scenario had an additional bonus question. I enjoyed the

fact that after every scenario there is an explanation as to why that was the answer. It’s definitely

helpful when I got the answer incorrect because it better explained why the other answer was

more ethical. In writing the reflection papers, sometimes it was hard to think of scenarios that I

have also similarly dealt with in my personal work life. But it was also interesting to find that I

was always able to reflect back on a certain scenario in my personal work life and share that in

my papers.

4. The Case Study Research

I feel as though the case study research was the most complicating of all the assignments

that I have done in this course. I am very unfamiliar with case study researching but it helped me

understand why doing this research can benefit my future careers. Looking into different cases

and the consequences and the development of each case really made me understand how much

you can actually discover and produce from those situations. And taking those situations and

applying it to a self-goal or aspiration and really understanding how that particular ethic case can

even be applied to your own life.

5. Any changes that occurred in your leadership styles over the semester and why.

I think my leadership style in the beginning of the semester has developed immensely the

past couple of weeks of this course. Coming into this course, I didn’t necessarily understand the

full concept of what Ethics in Organizations would be like. I feel as though that what I knew was

only the very basic. I actually did not think how much more in depth one can talk about Ethics

because I only thought it was what was morally right and what was morally wrong. What I have
learned in this course has made an impact on my leadership style especially with understanding

what is morally right and wrong in the type of business I work in.

6. How you plan to continue using what you’ve learned for your own personal development.

I am very happy that I took this particular course. I don’t know how different it would be

if I had taken this course from another professor, but the study method used in this course was

extremely helpful and was something I understood completely. With that said, I really feel as

though that the book discussion format was more than helpful with helping me understanding the

text as oppose to just reading it on my own time. That engagement made it more personal and it

made the memorization a lot easier. Every week, with reading the two chapters given to us and

also writing a reflection paper for simulation made me understand how my personal work life,

past, present, and future, has been effected by ethics and all the different theories I have learned.
