PCA-Choosing an Organization Worksheet

Worksheet Objectives:

1. Identify an organization and situation you want to study over the remainder of the course.

2. Describe the organization and the situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other

course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and

format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Name and describe your organization.

Backyard Bowls is an acai bowl company that values “better life through better

food”. Most of the food is organic and what isn’t, is thoughtfully sourced through small

farms or uncertified producers. This company is based on minimizing earthly impact. Our

menu also ranges from smoothies, porridges, toasts, and more. We primarily focus on

being and staying healthy, offering a lot of enhancements to add to bowls and smoothies

that are beneficial to your health.

2) Describe your role in the organization (it can be an internal or external role).

My role at Backyard Bowls is the Manager at the Santa Monica location. I am

responsible for managing the store’s needs through hiring, training, setting standards and

 procedures, etc. Additionally, I place weekly orders, manage the schedule, and coach,

counsel, and discipline employees when necessary.

3) Describe the situation, including information you think the will help the reader

understand the most important elements of the situation. (This will require

selectivity: part of the art of case writing is separating the essential facts from the

mass of information that might be included).

As a new Store Manager, transitioning into this position in March 2022, I was

vaguely informed of the responsibilities and changes that would need to occur. Since the

interview, I was told that the last Manager had neglected office duties, back of house

organization, and cleanliness of the store. When I was hired on and started my training,

that is when I was informed of every detail. Because of the lack of detail, it took me by

surprise and I had to have a change of focus on how to deal with the current issues at

hand. Though it was an overwhelming experience, I was able to prioritize individual

situations and make improvements starting from the most important.
