Acknowledgement

First of all, I am very grateful towards Allah S.W.T for granting me good physical, healthy
mind and body. Without his blessings, I am certainly would not be able to complete this project.

I am also very thankful to have an awesome Biology teacher, Cik Wan Nur Shairah that
guided me throughout this project from A to Z.

I am also very grateful to have all the facilities such as the ease of the internet and iPad to
complete this PBL.

INTRODUCTION

In the world of modernization, the world’s economy has been increasing rapidly throughout these
years especially during the 4th industry revolution. These development may ease the life for
humans for example the available of the internet, astonishing technologies such as nuclear power
plants, biotechnology and high rise buildings. Although these developments may benefit humans
but it causes harm to the environment by pollution by sea, river and air.

Sustainable Development Goals are introduced as the blueprint to achieve a better and more
sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including poverty, inequality,
climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice. This is why I am conducting my
project as a way to curb these threats to the environment by implementing SDG in the development
of cities.

During creating my project I will be using recycled materials such as cardboard and carton box and
many more to build my model city based on SDG.

In conclusion, my project will bring benefits to the environment without affecting the development
of city. By this, future generations will experience a healthy lifestyle.

Materials and Apparatus

Materials
1. Large Carton box from milk
2. Carton box from milk
3. straws
4. Foam
5. Large cardboard
6. Wooden tongue depressors

Apparatus
1. Scissors
2. Elephant glue
3. Ruler

Methodology

Procedures :

For this model city, recyclable materials and cheap materials are used to build the city. All
the buildings are organized in a well practical manner. Each component plays a role in making the
model city to achieve the SDGs. My main focus is to achieve goal number 7 and 11 which is
affordable and clean energy and sustainable cities and communities.

1. Sketch the city, and plan its layout carefully

2. Determine the scale
3. Create a base using a large piece of cardboard
4. Construct the buildings using carton box
5. Large carton box are used for the indoor agricultural facilities,
6. Cut straw to small pieces and attach them to carton box to indicate the building has hydro pipes
7. Cut foam into small pieces and attach them at the upper part of carton box to indicate as wind turbines
8. Cut the wooden tongue depressors into desired shape as road
9. Cut foam into small pieces and attach them at the wooden tongue depressors as wind turbines

Precaution :

When glueing the components together, avoid putting too much glue

Budget :

Material Price per unit

Large Carton from milk x2 RM 0.80 RM 1.60

Carton from box milk x10 RM 1.25 RM 12.50

Straws (one bag) RM 1.00 RM 1.00

Foam RM 0.50 RM 0.50

Large cardboard RM 2.50 RM 2.50

Wooden tongue depressors x17 RM 0.50 RM 8.50

Total RM 26.60

Concept and idea of model city based on SDG :

IDEA 1 : The use of Vertical-axis wind turbines with aerodynamic blades is placed on every buildings and
along the roads to produce electricity. High wind speed when at high altitude and when high speed cars pass
by the turbines

IDEA 2 : The use of high rise building as a high technology indoor agricultural to provide the city with
sustainable food source and providing more job opportunities

IDEA 3 : The use of high rise building’s water tanks to generate electricity by installing hydro pipes. Water
will flow through the pipes during water from the tank is being consumed to spin the turbines.

Results and Interpretation of Data

Results :

ADVANTAGE DISADVANTAGE

IDEA 1

Can produce high amount of electricity as air flow is fast Hard to get maintenance as turbines are at difficult
at high altitude and next to road where lots of car pass by positions
IDEA 2

Can produce own food to be used by the city’s resident Consumes high electricity
and can produce high quality vegetables as there are
lesser pesticide
IDEA 3

Can produce electricity while doing daily lifestyles such Less electricity will be produced during drought season
as showering

Discussion

Question :
1. What does it mean by ‘Sustainable development’ ? (1 mark) LOT’s
2. Define Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) ( 4 mark) LOT’s
3. State all the objectives of SDGs. (3 marks) LOT’s
4. Do all SDGs objectives are achievable in your city/country? Justify. HOT’s (4
marks)
5. Based on your knowledge, does our country have any efforts in achieving SDGs? (4
marks) HOT’s
6. Which SDG in your opinion will be the hardest to fulfil (choose 2 + state your
reasons) (4 marks) HOT’s

Answers :
1. An environmental condition that remains the same without any reduction or depletion of natural
resources, with an assured quality of the surrounding environment, for a long period of time

2. Sustainable Development Goals are introduced as the blueprint to achieve a better and more
sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including poverty, inequality,
climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice.

3. Securing economic development, social equity and justice, and environmental protection is the
goal of sustainable development. Although these three factors can work in harmony, they are often
found to conflict with one another.

4. No because my country has political crisis which can lead to unsecured development of the
nation. With the unstable politics in the country, investors wont come to invest in Malaysia as the
economy is not in a stable state. With the economy plumbing downwards, it will make the citizens
have a harder life.

5. Yes my country has plans to be a developed country. My country has a plan which is called
TN50. Which is Transformasi Nasional 2050. It is aimed that my country will be a developed nation
at that time. At this moment, all this efforts are still in the process of development.

6. I think it will be Gender Equality. It is because some of the points of Gender Equality opposes the
official religion of Malaysia which is Islam. Next, I think it will be Affordable and Clean Energy, it
is because most of Malaysia’s power plants uses coal which causes air pollution.

7

Conclusion

Based on the data above, it is proven that by implementing SDGs in developing a city can have a

positive impact on the environment and the lifestyle of a human being. Moreover, by implementing SDGs

we are a able to create a better civilization. Thus, in the next year with the improving technology and

education system, we may be able to achieve all 17 goals. In conclusion, SGDs are very important to keep

and maintain our earth in safe hands. By this, we can achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.
