Week 2, Term 3
04 August 2022

Dear families and friends of the school,

Welcome back to Term 3! Once again unfortunately we find ourselves back to wearing masks as
we do our bit to try and curb the spread of not only COVID but the other nasty bugs that are
going around at the present time. This will hopefully be short lived! The recommendation was for
the first four weeks of the term, and this is what we will do.

This term we are looking forward to connecting with our school community again now that things
are finally a little easier for us to do so.
Please keep the date free to attend our whole school Cultural Mass on the 11th of September.
This will not only be a great opportunity for us all to catch up with each other once again but a
wonderful celebration of our unique and diverse cultures here at St Joseph’s School.
There will also be wonderful opportunities at our annual Hui, Talanoa and Pagpupulong for staff
and parents to connect with each other over kai and conversation. Please look out for these
dates which will be advertised on both Facebook and on Hero.
These meetings will be advertised soon.

Home and School

Have you considered being involved in our Home and school?
The Home and school are a group of parents who work together to raise funds for extra projects
and resources at our school plus organize opportunities for whānau to come together and get to
know one another as a school community - This has obviously been difficult over the past few
years but we are hoping that parents feel more comfortable coming into the school grounds now
and will support any events that they are invited to.
If you are interested in going onto the Home and school please contact the school office. They
are always happy to have new parents come along.

School Board Parent Elections

Nominations are now open!

At this coming election two of our current Board members are standing down due to their
children moving onto secondary school. This allows a wonderful opportunity for others as we
seek to elect two new parent representatives.
If you are interested and would like to know more about being a Board member, I can connect
you to one of our current Board members. They will give you a greater insight into the role.
Nominations close on
Wednesday 17th August at 12 noon. Election Day is Wednesday 21th September.
Please consider nominating either yourself or someone else. Nomination forms are on Hero or
can be requested from the school office.

A few reminders for whānau at the beginning of the term.

 Please ensure that your child has a rubbish free lunch - I have a goodie bag that I go
around with periodically. Those children with rubbish free lunches are able to make a
choice from the bag! This is a great reward for those that have a rubbish free lunch, and
very disappointing for those that don’t!
 Please ensure that appointments and holidays are taken, where possible out of school
hours or in the school holidays. We are very conscious that many children have had
considerable time off due to COVID and other illnesses and having more time away from
school could make progress in learning very difficult for them.
Your child’s learning, wellbeing and development are the most important things to us as
educators. Please help us by carefully considering your holiday choices and dates!

We look forward a great third term

Kind regards
Cath Blacklow
Principal

From the Director of Religious Studies

Kia ora everyone and welcome back to school for Term 3. For the first half of this term, we are
focussing on the virtue of forgiveness. When we are looking at this virtue, we want our akonga to
understand the importance of seeking forgiveness as well as forgiving others. We also want
them to know that God loves them unconditionally and they can always ask for God’s
forgiveness.
We have some exciting special character events coming up this term as follows:

4
 First Reconciliation for students currently preparing for their First Holy Communion -
Thursday 11th August at 6.30pm
 First Holy Communion Mass - Sunday 21st August at 10am
 Whole School Mass - Sunday 11th September at 10am (This will be a Mass celebrating
all the cultures in our school and parish)

Here is a prayer for your whānau for forgiveness:

Magandang araw sa inyong lahat at maligayang

pagbabalik sa ikatlong termino. Sa unang
kalahati ng terminong ito, ay pagtutuunan natin
ng pansin ang kabutihan ng pagpapatawad.
Sa pagpapaliwanag ng kabutihang ito, nais
nating maintindihan ng mga bata ang
kahalagahan ng paghingi ng tawad at ang
pagpapatawad sa ibang tao. Nais din nating
maiparating sa kanila na walang kapantay ang
pagmamahal sa atin ng Poong Maykapal at
maaari tayo lagi humingi ng Kanyang
kapatawaran.
Mayroon tayong mga kaabang-abang na
espesyal na kaganapan ngayong darating na
termino, ito ay ang mga sumusunod:
 Unang Pagkakasundo ng mga batang
kasalukuyang naghahanda para sa kanilang
Unang Banal na Komunyon- Huwebes, ika-
labing-isa ng Agosto sa ganap na 6.30 ng gabi.
 Misa para sa Unang Banal na
Komunyon- Linggo, ika- dalawamput-isa ng
Agosto, alas-dyes ng umaga.
 Buong pampaaralang Misa - Linggo, ika-
Pagpapatawad"
Patawarin mo po ako Panginoon;
Sa aking mga nagawa
Sa lahat ng aking binitawang salita
Sa aking mga sinabi na makasalanan
Patawarin mo po, dahil tanging ako lamang
Ang nagtapon ng iyong mga utos sa basurahan.
Patawarin mo po ako, Panginoong Hesus;
Para sa mga maling bagay na aking pinili
Wag naman sanang lumipas ang iyong grasya;
Sa mga masasamang hakbang na aking ginawa
Patawarin mo po ako sa mga makasalanang
daan na aking tinahak,
Patawarin mo ako, patawarin mo ako Panginoon.
Patawarin mo po ako Panginoon;
Kaawaan mo po ako at bigyan ng grasya,
Sa bawat sandali, at bawat segundo na aking
ginugugol.
Tulungan mo po ako Hesus para sa mga bagay
na aking kailangan ayusin
Patawarin mo po ako Panginoon, hanggang
katapusan.

Closing Prayer
Dear Lord, you taught us that greatness isn’t about being popular or athletic or about winning prizes or
awards.
You taught us that greatness is about serving others.
Greatness is about deeds, not things.
Help us do good deeds so that one day we’ll be counted as one of your heroes.
Amen
