How I learnt swimming

Learning something new can be a caring experience. One the hardest thing I´ve ever had to do
was learn how to swim. I was always afraid of the water, but I decide that swimming was an
important skill that I should learn. I also thought it would be good exercise and help me to become
physically stronger. What I didn't realize was that learning to swim would be also make me more
confident person.

New situations always make me a bit nervous, and my first swimming lesson was not and
exception. After I changed into my bathing suit in the locker room, I waited for my classmates
because I was too embarrassed to go out alone. After a couple of minutes, the teacher came over.
She smiled and introduced herself. I turn to look at my classmates and they didn´t seem
embarrassed, Apparently, I was the only one in the whole class who didn't know how to swim.

Those who were the year before entered the large pool, while those who entered that year went
to the small one and those were me, Pía, Ian and Mia, we were the new ones. They started to
swim, but I didn´t know what to do. Then, the teacher realized that I didn´t know how to swim and
I was so embarrassed that I almost started crying, but I held back. After that the teacher told me to
hold the kickboard while she pulled it through the water, and we kicked.

The class went by very quickly and, but I was very tired. After few more weeks I started to swim
better and better, but then the holidays came, and my body forgot how to swim and I had to start
all over again. The same thing happened for two years because of the holidays or because I stayed
in virtual classes, but this year, but this year you can no longer stay in virtual classes, honestly I'm
doing very well and I can now follow the class with the others.

Learning how to swim was very difficult for me, but in the end I got used to it. Not only did I learn
how to swim and to conquer my fear of the water, but I also learned something about learning.
Now when I´m faced to a situation I tried to not be so nervous. I may feel uncomfortable to begin
with, but I know that as I practice being in that situation and ass my skills get better, I will feel
more and more comfortable. It is a wonderful, free feeling when you achieve a goal you have set
for yourself. Although I'm still not good enough like my teammates, I'm going to try to get the
best out of myself.
