 INTRODUCTION
Ever wondered how I became a successful online marketer? Like most people
who ended up working online, I have my own story to tell. I do hope this will
inspire someone to leap towards the bright future. Contrary to what you
might think, I was not born with the ‘skills’ neither was I trained in school to
be a marketer. In fact, I studied pharmacy in college, and I practiced as a
pharmacist for about twenty-six years of my life. My job as a pharmacist
wasn’t the easy. Daily, I would work a ten to fourteen-hour shift; most of the
time, all by myself with no help. This was done to cut the cost of employing too
many people. The expectation at my workplace was so high. I hardly got
breaks. It was more difficult for me to get a break than it was for a dog to pass
through a needle hole, as there was nobody to cover for me if I wanted to go
on break. Each day I went back home extremely tired; I would always get
home to children waiting for me to care for them. Some days, I would not even
get to see my children. I missed their weekend game; I had no time for family
and friends. I was what a child would refer to as a bad parent.

Vacations were not even available. In a whole year, I was entitled to four
weeks. These four weeks, however, I wasn’t able to take at once. I would have
to break into two or three for me to be able to have my complete vacation. I
never really had the opportunity to see my family in Africa, because things
were always piled up and I just never had enough time to do everything.

I had been working for twenty five years in this same company, before
something happened. This event will cause a chain of events that led to my life
being changed forever. One day the company’s board decided that they would
let go of the old pharmacists and replace them with younger ones, in a bid to
cut cost. Well, as you may have guessed, I was one of those that were sent off. I
had no retirement package from the company, and the little I had could only
last me for a while. While I was working my first job as a pharmacist, the
government removed about 40% tax from my salary, but I didn’t mind. At that
point, I felt fulfilled working as a professional, a pharmacist with a secure job.
I was fired and life looked really bleak to me. This led me into a chain of
thoughts; how would I secure my future and that of my children.

After I was laid off my former job, I got another job as a pharmacist, but this
time in a smaller firm. This new job was worse than my previous one; it was
on contract basis, with no benefits attached to it. I have five lovely children,
four of which were in college. My husband and I were responsible for our
children’s fees; my husband was paying the fees, but his income was not
enough to carry the whole expense. I just had to get a job to support him. The
job in the new place lasted for just 10 months, because I soon got another job.
In the new job, I was hired to work as an inpatient pharmacist, although it was
also on a contract basis. It was, however, better than the former because it
was a government job and had benefits; this, of course, made me happy.

After six months of working in the new place, things went sour once again.
The government decided to stop using the agency that hired me and started
hiring people by itself. President Trump had announced that the government
should cease hiring; this made me lose hope in getting a new job. I was close
to fifty years old; I had no retirement benefit, no job security, no asset… I soon
became frustrated. I knew I needed financial security, so I took to the internet
in search of a new job. I didn’t find one, but I found a video that changed my

is one of the greatest decisions I made in my life. It is a great feeling, waking
up in the morning, knowing that I am my own boss. I do not have to answer to
anyone and I could do whatever, whenever. Now I can travel all I want; I can
go visit my children as much as I would love to. I never have to miss their
graduation, or family events anymore. My husband and I are having a good
time together; I now have the opportunity to serve my God and go on mission
trips. I can go anywhere in the world, all I would need to take are a few

WORKING FROM HOME

Working from home is one of the best things that can happen to any human
being, if you know how to manage your work well. You can imagine the
comfort of your home; you can do whatever you like at whatever time you
deem it fit. There is nobody disturbing you or barking orders on how to go
about your business. Nobody is checking the time you get to work, nobody is
monitoring every of your steps. You are your own boss and you make your

for a lot of people including myself, who had a lot of difficulty in her

in the corporate world and I can tell you from both experiences that this

For you to get a full understanding of what the job entails, you would need to
have the basic understanding first of what online marketing is. Online
marketing is a set of methods through which you can promote good and
services online. With the use of online marketing, you are more likely to reach
a wider range of people while spending little or nothing on transportation.
Online marketing is really helpful, because the majority of your clientele in
involved online. While online, you can communicate with a wider range of
people at low cost. You are able to reach out to a specific or nonspecific (as
you would prefer) set of people without having to move from your chair. With
little effort and money, you are able to draw people’s attention to your
product or service and make sales that is way more that you would make if
you used the older methods of marketing.

TYPE OF ONLINE MARKETING

1. Digital marketing

Some people refer to this as Data-driven Marketing. This is when you market
some product with the use of digital technologies. The most common and
readily available digital technology is the internet; however, this can be done
with phones and other digital devices. We all know that technology has taken
over the world and people are more likely to browse your site, than visit your
shop physically when they receive your flier.

There are different techniques one can use in digital marketing and they
include; search engine optimization (SEO), search engine marketing (SEM),
social media optimization, e books and a whole lot more. These methods are
quite effective in reaching out to clients who are almost always on the
internet, which these days mean almost everybody. Not only that, it is rather
easy to maintain and monitor.

Affiliate marketing is an incredible way to make so much money with so little

marketing, because it is very lucrative. Find one online store that offers
affiliate programs and take your time to go through their products. If they are
products that you would love market, go ahead and register with the store.
Once you have tried or seen a product; one that you are highly likely to
recommend, get the link and show it to people on your affiliate site. If a
customer clicks on your link and buys the product, a certain percentage will
be paid into your account. It is easy to run with little or no stress involved.
Every party involved in an affiliate marketing program gets to go home happy.
You are happy because you have made yourself money without stress, the
customer is happy because you made it easy for him to find the product, the
seller is happy because they didn’t have to stress themselves to get this

SELL YOUR SKILL

A good business you can do from home is to sell what you know how to do
best. The internet is a good market place where your skills can be used to
satisfy the needs of countless consumers that have been looking for someone
to offer the service you are rendering.

get paid good cash for the work done. Once you have a talent or you have
acquired a skill, you can use that skill to make money online. Never think your
skill or talent is too small or useless; trust me, there are a lot of people looking
for that which you are ready to offer. You would just need to make a good and

they can refer you and give you good reviews. However remember that in this
kind of business, the competition is fierce and you are judged based on what

For people to know the kind of services you offer, you would need to
advertise. Advertisement is an aspect of the business that should never be
overlooked because it goes a long way to determine the profit you make. Show
me a firm that doesn’t advertise, and I will show you one that will not last
long. Even if you are now popular in the business, people need to be
constantly reminded that you exist in the midst of fierce competition.

The internet again has provided a lot of opportunities for advertisement.

There are a lot of sites where your advert can be placed, each with its own
pros and cons. However, the advantages of advertising online will always
outweigh the cons. Below are a few advantages that I have been able to put
together.

 Easy access and operation- This point applies, not just to you but also to
your potential clientele. Almost everybody, from different age groups,
sex, races, and countries are on the internet daily. Placing your ads on
popular platforms will serve as a great tool to reach out to these people.
It is also easy for you to set up; simply follow the instructions and you
are good to go.

 Larger reach- This simply buttresses the point above. More people are
reached using online ads than you would ever get using the crude
methods, such as handing fliers to people in the town square.
  Monitoring made easy- These methods help you to monitor the reach of
your advert. It also makes it easy for you to account for the money spent
on ads in relation with the profit made on the product or service.

 You can put as much info as you want in your ad, without having to
struggle with managing space as you would if you had to buy a space in
the newspaper. Although I always advice that the content should be
simple and straight to the point, so as not to bore the potential clients

 Everybody uses online ads, even the big ones in the competition. Online
Ads serve as a way to make us as even as we can be.

I believe by now, you should have started thinking about how to go about your
online ads. Good news is there are plenty options to pick from. Some are paid
for and some are free, you would need to study each of them and choose
which will work perfectly or close to perfect for you. Below are a few popular
ones, in no particular order.

1. Facebook Ads

Everybody loves Facebook; it is an opportunity to get in touch with family and

friends far and wide right? Well, maybe not just that. Facebook has done well
for marketers and consumers alike. With just a small fee, you are able to have
your adverts sponsored on Facebook. It uses demographic factors in creating
a reach for you. Once you have your reach, the Facebook ads are featured on
people’s timelines. People get to see the advert and are able to place their
orders or make enquiries with just one click. It is a rather cheap and
convenient platform where suppliers meet consumers.

2. Twitter Ads

For social media lovers, twitter is a fast grown and still growing place for the
young and a few old ones too. It is a place for people who are actively
interested in what is going on around them; constantly tweeting and

your ads. With Bing, you can watch as your little money fetches you many

This platform uses user’s interest rather than demography. You get to attract
leads based on what they are interested in, rather than how old they are or
what sex they are. If you are involved in creative work; art, writing, voice
recording or crafts, this is a good place for you to place your ads. They are
affordable and the traffic could be really incredible, if you end up enticing the
right people.

6. Linkedin

A place where professionals get to network could work well in getting leads
for your product or service. You can target a set of professionals who you
know would benefit from your product; this makes your job easier. You can
share your banner and other links to your own site, where people would
subsequently reach out to you. It is effective towards a targeted audience.

7. YOUTUBE

We all watch youtube videos. At some point in between your lovely video; you
would be diverted to another video, which is an advert. Usually you are
obligated to watch for a few seconds then you would have the opportunity to
skip or continue. The mistake a lot of people make is to make their ads boring
in the beginning. Once it is boring in the beginning, people are not likely to
watch it till the end. However if your first few sights are appealing, I am more
likely to hold on and watch till the end, then continue watching my video. The
