E. Things to do before, during and after an earthquake
Before an earthquake
1. Prepare a 72-hour survival kit.
2. Inspect if the house can withstand strong earthquakes.
3. Educate the family members on what do before, during and after an
earthquake.
4. Identify places of assembly and evacuation.
5. Familiarize ourselves to the floor plan and exits of the house for quick escape
after an earthquake.
During an earthquake
1. Stay calm
2. Practice duck, cover and hold.
3. Stay alert for falling debris.
4. Do not try to get run while the earthquake is ongoing.
5. Execute earthquake preparedness plan
After an earthquake
1. Quickly get out of the house but do not run.
2. Do a headcount.
3. Do not go back unless adviced by authorities.
4. Inspect the house for cracks.
5. Listen to the news.
F. Structural Weakness of the House
Some parts of the house is made of wood and plywood that may collapse during
a strong earthquake. Also, some cabinets and wall decorations aren’t well secured to
the walls.
The walls of the house that is made of wood and plywood may be reinforced with
metals to prevent collapse during an earthquake. And the cabinets and wall decorations
may be secured well to the walls using strong leather straps and nails.
G. Emergency Meeting Place and Contact Plan
Each family members must memorize each others contact numbers and social
media accounts. If separated, we will meet each other in our in Eufracio Carmona

 First aid kit with medications, alcohol, bandages, cotton, gauze, mask, adhesive
plasters, medicine, thermometer, tweezers).
 Easy-to-prepare food items, and clean and potable water (42 gallons)

napkin.
 Flashlights and batteries, battery-operated radio, lighters and matches, whistle,

 Malaya is situated at approximately 13.2206, 121.2816, in the
island of Mindoro. Elevation at these coordinates is estimated at
16.8 meters or 55.1 feet above mean sea level.
 Malaya is a barangay in the municipality of Naujan, in the
province of Oriental Mindoro. 67 years of founding anniversary.
 Its population as determined by the 2020 Census was 1,135. This
represented 1.04% of the total population of Naujan.
 The household population of Malaya in the 2015 Census was
1,186 broken down into 226 households or an average of 5.25
members per household.

F. Barangay Emergency Plan before, during, and after the following hazards:
a. As a barangay, what are you going to do before, during, and after an
earthquake?
- Before an earthquake
o PREPARE A STATIC WATER TANK
Each barangay should get at least one static water tank to serve as an
alternative water source.
o IDENTIFY A FOOD WAREHOUSE
Identify all critical food related establishments in the barangay.
o AUDIT AND RETROFIT INFRASTRUCTURE
Recommend all infrastructure which shall be prioritized for retrofitting
and those that may already be condemned. Also, map out all critical
roads and structures for necessary action.
o UPDATE BARANGAY CENSUS
Update the registry of barangay inhabitants to allow easier accounting
of survivors.
o CONDUCT TRAINING FOR BASIC LIFE SUPPORT
Conduct training for at least one family member per household on
Basic Life Support – First Aid (BLSFA) and other lifesaving skills to
supplement medical first responders.
- During an earthquake
o Drop, Cover, and Hold on! Drop to the floor, get under a sturdy table,
and hold on until the shaking stops. If your entire body does not fit
underneath the furniture, position your body so that at least your head
and neck are covered.

- During a fire
o To make your house more visible in smoke, turn on outside lights and
leave a light on in every room;
o Wear N95 masks to protect your lungs from harmful particles;
o Stop, drop and roll if you or your family’s clothes catch on fire;
o Always stay with your family and pets and keep your disaster safety kit
on hand; and,
o Remain calm and evacuate immediately: drive at regular speeds with
windows rolled up and headlights on.
- After a fire
o Continue to check in with news updates for information about the fire;
o Proceed with caution: maintain a “fire watch” and check your home and
surrounding areas for small, lingering embers;
o Return home only when authorities deem it’s safe;
o Have a professional examine your home to make sure it’s ready and
safe;
o Send text messages/social media to reach out to family and friends;
c. Typhoon
- Before a typhoon
o Store an adequate supply of food and clean water
o Prepare foods that need not be cooked.
o Keep flashlights, candles and battery-powered radios within easy
reach.
o Examine your house and repair its unstable parts.
o Always keep yourself updated with the latest weather report.
o Harvest crops that can be yielded already.
o Secure domesticated animals in a safe place.
o For fisher folks, place boats in a safe area.
o Should you need to evacuate, bring clothes, first aid kit,
candles/flashlight, battery-powered radio, food, etc.
o Establish a community-based early-warning system
o Repair and retrofit critical structure.
- During a typhoon
o Do not wade through floodwaters to avoid being electrocuted and
contracting diseases.
o If there is a need to move to an evacuation center, follow these
reminders.
o Evacuate calmly.
o Close the windows and turn off the main power switch.
o Put important appliances and belongings in a high ground.
o Avoid the way leading to the river.
- After a typhoon
o If your house was destroyed, make sure that it is already safe and
stable when you enter.
o Beware of dangerous animals such as snakes that may have entered
your house
o Watch out for live wires or outlet immersed in water.
o Report damaged electrical cables and fallen electric posts to the
authorities.
o Do not let water accumulate in tires, cans or pots to avoid creating a
favorable condition for mosquito breeding.

use in the future.
