Motivation Letter

Dear Sir/Madam,

I would like to submit my application for admission into the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in International
Business offered by HTW Berlin - University of Applied Sciences.

My name is Sahriar Mahmud and I was born in Chittagong on 28th October 1997. With regards to my
personality, I believe I am a very responsible individual who loves to learn new things in life and to seek
new experiences. I enjoy observing the people around me and meeting others with understanding and
respect. I have passed Secondary School Certificate (SSC) in 2013 and then passed Higher Secondary
Certificate (HSC) in 2015. After HSC, I realized that I am not passionate about science and I have no
interest in making a career in science field. I therefore decided to complete my higher education in
business and make a career in business. But I was confused on what stream of business to choose between
accounting and economics. After evaluating the pros and cons of both streams and seeking advice from
one of my uncle who is an Economist in the Bangladesh Government, I decided to pursue further
education and career in economics. I thus took admission in the B.S.S. in Economics program offered by
University of Chittagong under Department of Economics. However, after 1 year of education in the
university, my parents suggested me to complete my Bachelors and Masters in Germany because German
degrees are highly recognized and valued by employers in Bangladesh. My plan is to complete my
Masters in HTW Berlin after completing the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in International Business. After
completing my Masters, I intend to return to my home country and start my job career in a multinational
organization. It is a norm in Bangladesh that only candidates with degree from reputed foreign countries
get high position jobs. Obtaining this degree will give me competitive advantage in the job market in
Bangladeshi. I will be able to work in virtually every industry as international relations manager,
international trade adviser, international political adviser, import/export manager, international business
analyst, business development officer, communications manager, operations analyst, management
consultant and many more positions.

I applied in HTW Berlin - University of Applied Sciences because it is an application-oriented and

diverse university with over 13,000 students from all over the world studying in it. This will enable me to
make new friends and enhance my communication skills. The high level of education provided by HTW
Berlin is quite evident from it getting high position in world university rankings. Moreover, the university
has been awarded the Total E-Quality Science Award and it also holds the title of “Reform
Fachhochschule”. All the academic staff of the university are highly qualified and are experts in their own
fields, thus ensuring top class education. Additionally, the university is known for providing the most
updated and state of the art facilities and education to its students. These are the facilities which and
services which Bangladeshi universities lack.

Being in Germany, I will get international exposure and be able to learn the latest technologies and
methods used in economics-related jobs. The environment in Germany for foreign students is safe and the
locals are very welcoming and helpful. With the influx of international students ever growing, Germany
will provide me the diverse environment in which I can learn different cultures and traditions. Since I
love travelling, Germany has lots of naturally beautiful places to visit. Being an extrovert, I can easily
adapt with German way of life. I am willing to stay in the dormitory of HTW Berlin and this will save
time and money as I won’t have to travel long distances to reach my university.
The Bachelor of Arts in International Business will provide me a platform to explore specific issues of
doing business in a globalized world, including those of a political and economic order, as well as those
related to specific situations in marketing and management. The course perfectly suits me because I plan
to make a career in the strategies, corporate policies and operations of international firms in this era of
globalization. Through the course will learn how international business is different room conventional
business how globalization is changing the way business and commerce around the world. In the 7
semesters of the (B.A.) in International Business course, I will also be provided with internships and tasks
which will enhance my practical skills in economics. Additionally, I can enhance my skills in different
languages as I will get training of foreign languages during my studies. I have already studied relevant
subjects of the International Business program such as Introduction to economics, Business Mathematics,
Macro-Economics and International Economics. I am excited to study new subjects in the Bachelors
program such as International Business Law, Financial Accounting, Statistics, Marketing, Corporate
Finance, International Management, Intercultural Management, Innovation Management, Human
Resource Management, Company Taxation and Information Management.

All my prior education was in English language and I have achieved an overall score of 7 in IELTS which
will make it easy for me to communicate and study in Germany. I am very eager to learn the German
Language and have already started learning fundamental German language topics.

My family and friends are supporting me in every possible way and I am fully determined and focused on
completing my course in Germany. I am mentally and physically ready to tackle all challenges that I will
face in my educational journey.

Thank You.

Sahriar Mahmud
