INVESTIGATING STRESS OF CHOSEN SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

INVESTIGATING STRESS

Most students experience stress when they have upcoming examinations and/or

presentations in school and this kind of stress is called examination stress.

What is examination stress? According to the article of Concordia University (2020),

examination stress is the feeling of tension and worry that comes from test-taking situations. It is

normal to feel some stress relating to upcoming examinations and/or presentations, however, it

becomes problematic when it interferes with the ability of the student to perform and achieve

their academic and learning goals.

The following is how the data is gathered by the researcher:

Online Survey Questionnaire. The questionnaire is used to determine what

factors of examination stress the chosen Senior High School Students have experienced or might

be experiencing right now.

STUDY RESULTS

The following are the results of this study are discussed in the following aspects:

● Sample Characteristics

● Level of how are the respondents are doing during this time of the

pandemic and S.Y 2021-2022.

● Level of stress and factors of Examination Stress that the respondents

might have experienced or experiencing right now.

For the first part of the survey, the respondents were asked about their basic information

(Grade Level, Age, and Sex).

1.1 Senior High School Respondents

The following are the characteristics of the respondents:

● Grade Level

The majority of the respondents are Grade 11 students with a percentage of 55.6% while the
Grade 12 students have 44.4%.

● Age

The majority of the respondents are 17 years old with a percentage of 55.6% while the 18 years
old respondents have 33.3% and 19 years old above have 11.1%.

● Sex

The majority of the respondents are female with a percentage of 77.8% while the male
respondents have 22.2%.

For the second part of the survey, the respondents are asked to answer the provided
questions through a linear type of questionnaire; 1 being the lowest (I’m not okay/Burnout) and 5
being the highest (I’m doing great).

2.1 How are you during this time of the pandemic?

The majority of the respondents chose option number 3 with a percentage of 66.7%; this means
that the respondents who chose this answer are in between of they are doing great and they are
not okay; option number 2 has 22.2% and option number 1 has 11.1%.

2.2 How are you this School Year 2021-2022?

The majority of the respondents chose option number 2 with a percentage of 44.4%; this means
that these respondents are close to being not okay this school year 2021-2022; option number 3
has 22.2% while options number 1, 4, and 5 has 11.1%.

3.1 How stressed are you when it comes to what is happening right now?

The majority of the respondents chose options number 1 and 2 with a percentage of 33.3% while

the number of the options 3 to 5 have 11.1%

3.2 How stressed are you when it comes to school activities this school year

2021-2022?

The respondents chose the options number 1 to 3 with a percentage of 33.3%

3.3 The following are the factors of Examination Stress you might have experienced

or experiencing right now. Kindly select the choices that correspond to you.

The majority of the respondents chose ‘Pressure’ as a factor in their examination stress with a
percentage of 88.9% then ‘Lack of Preparation’ is the next highest factor in their examination
stress with a percentage of 77.8%; ‘Lack of Sleep’ has 55.6%’; ‘Family Problem’ has 44.4%;
Lastly, ‘Competition’ has 22.2%.

CONCLUSION

Most of the respondents showed that they are stressed during this time of the pandemic and this
school year 2021-2022; ‘Pressure’ and ‘Lack of Preparation’ is the factor that causes them to feel
stress during an examination day. Therefore, the researcher suggests having good time
management; starting by doing easy tasks and then heavy tasks, or when it comes to reviewing
the discussed lessons, start by reviewing the subject that you find difficult for you — use
techniques like writing important terms or using flashcards. Lastly, while reviewing don’t forget
to take breaks.
