Material possession and social status are sees as the most valuable things a person can have in
nowadays. Given the power of social media and digital connection we heavily used in this era I can
understand the reason behind it. Although, I don’t see that it is true.

This behaviour is thriving on celebrities and influencers cultures. The easy way to consider whether
something valuable or not is seen in numbers. In this case numbers are including followers,
subscribers, likes, and of course money. It convenient to label someone is good or worthy if they
befriended famous people, because it means they are nice and known. Or have a lot of money which
means a lot of power and fun. But the reality is celebrities and influencer are not always their true
self on or off the camera. A lot of them are very stressed out by the pressure of presenting their
celebrities persona. Many of the powerful people on media is ignorance to people are struggling
around them and only doing things that are benefitting their own. Ultimately though, it is the
influencer cultures and tabloid news exposing and forcing us to follow this demeanour.

However, I still believe in day-to-day living society and interaction we value qualitatively such as
honour, kindness, and trust. In such old-fashion way, we try to be a better person for ourselves and
others. We still build partnership based on trust and friendship, because it makes us a lot happier. In
the case of injustice, we stand for the oppressed and dishonour the abuser.

In conclusion, the notion of material possession and social status are valuable is inevitable in this
social media era. Those things can also be used to spread positive awareness and promote social
justice. Still, the old-fashioned values area the truth and closer judgement for most people in the
daily living interactions.
