-5-
DIN-Rail Mounting
The metal DIN-rail kit is fixed to the back panel of the EDS-518E when
you take it out of the box. Mount the EDS-518E on corrosion-free
mounting rails that meet the EN 60715 standard.
Installation
STEP 1: Insert the upper lip of the DIN rail into the DIN-rail mounting kit.
STEP 2: Press the EDS-518E series towards the DIN rail until it snaps into
place.
Removal
STEP 1: Pull down the latch on the mounting kit with a screwdriver.
STEPS 2 & 3: Pull the EDS-518E forward slightly and then lift up to
remove it from the DIN rail.
ATTENTION
1. These devices are open-type devices that are to be installed
in an enclosure with tool removable cover or door suitable
for the environment at that location.
2. This equipment is suitable for use in Class I, Division 2,
Groups A, B, C, and D or non-hazardous locations only.
-6-
Wall Mounting (Optional)
For some applications, you will find it convenient to mount the Moxa
EDS-518E on a wall, as shown in the following illustrations:
STEP 1: Remove the
aluminum DIN-rail
attachment plate from the
rear panel of the EDS-518E,
and then attach the wall
mount plates with M3 screws,
as shown in the figure at the
right.
NOTE Before tightening the screws into the wall, make sure the screw
head and shank size are suitable by inserting the screw through
one of the keyhole-shaped apertures of the wall mount plates.
Do not screw the screws in all the way—leave about 2 mm to allow room
for sliding the wall mount panel between the wall and the screws.
STEP 3: Once the screws are
fixed to the wall, insert the four
screw heads through the wide
parts of the keyhole-shaped
apertures, and then slide the
EDS-518E downwards, as
indicated in the figure at the
right. Tighten the four screws for
greater stability.
WARNING
1. EXPLOSION HAZARD—Do not disconnect equipment unless
power has been removed or the area is known to be
non-hazardous.
2. EXPLOSION HAZARD—Substitution of any components may
impair suitability for Class I, Division 2.
3. EXPOSURE TO SOME CHEMICALS MAY DEGRADE THE
SEALING PROPERTIES OF MATERIALS USED IN THE RELAY.

Wiring Requirements
WARNING
Do not disconnect modules or wires unless power has been
switched off or the area is known to be non-hazardous. The
devices may only be connected to the supply voltage shown on
the type plate. The devices are designed for operation with a
Safety Extra-Low Voltage. Thus, they may only be connected to
the supply voltage connections and to the signal contact with the
Safety Extra-Low Voltages (SELV) in compliance with IEC950/
EN60950/ VDE0805.
ATTENTION
This unit is a built-in type. When the unit is installed in another
piece of equipment, the equipment enclosing the unit must
comply with fire enclosure regulation IEC 60950/EN60950 (or
similar regulation).
ATTENTION
Safety First!
Be sure to disconnect the power cord before installing and/or
wiring your EDS-518E.
Calculate the maximum possible current in each power wire and
common wire. Observe all electrical codes dictating the
maximum current allowable for each wire size.
If the current goes above the maximum ratings, the wiring could
overheat, causing serious damage to your equipment.
-8-
Grounding the Moxa EDS-518E
Grounding and wire routing help limit the effects of noise due to
electromagnetic interference (EMI). Run the ground connection from the
ground screw to the grounding surface prior to connecting devices.
ATTENTION
This product is intended to be mounted to a well-grounded
mounting surface such as a metal panel.
-9-
Wiring the Digital Inputs
The EDS-518E has one digital input (DI). The DI consists of two contacts
of the 4-pin terminal block connector on the EDS-518E’s top panel, which
are used for the two DC inputs. The top view of the terminal block
connectors is shown here.
STEP 1: Insert the negative
(ground)/positive DI wires into the
┴/I terminals, respectively.
STEP 2: To keep the DI wires from
pulling loose, use a small flat-blade
screwdriver to tighten the wire-clamp
screws on the front of the terminal block
connector.
STEP 3: Insert the plastic terminal block
connector prongs into the terminal block
receptor, which is located on the
EDS-518E’s top panel.
Communication Connections
Each EDS-518E switch has 4 types of communication ports:
• 1 USB console port (type B connector)
• 1 USB storage port (type A connector)
• 14 10/100BaseTX Ethernet ports (EDS-518E-4GTXSFP series) or 12
10/100BaseT(X) Ethernet ports plus 2 100BaseFX (SC/ST-type
connector) fiber ports (EDS-518E-MM-SC-4GTXSFP/

Reset Button
The Reset Button supports two functions. One is to reset the Ethernet
switch to factory default settings by pressing and holding the Reset
button for 5 seconds. Use a pointed object, such as a straightened paper
clip or toothpick, to depress the Reset button. This will cause the STATE
LED to blink once a second. After depressing the button for 5 continuous
seconds, the STATE LED will start to blink rapidly, indicating that factory
default settings have been loaded and you can release the reset button.
When the ABC-02-USB is connected to the EDS-518E Ethernet switch, the
reset button allows quick configuration and backs up log files to the
ABC-02-USB. Press the Reset button on top of the EDS-518E; the
Ethernet switch will start backing up the current system configuration
files and event logs to the ABC-02-USB.
NOTE Do NOT power off the Ethernet switch when loading default
settings.

Type MVAJ 05/10/20: Tripping and control relays
Protective relays are precise measuring devices, the contacts of which should not be expected to switch large electrical loads. In some
cases, the protective relay may trip a circuit breaker directly, or according to the coil rating and the number of circuits to be energised,
may do so using a MVAJ tripping relay. The MVAJ relay interfaces the protection relay with the circuit breaker to provide the higher
contact capacity, additional contacts for tripping multiple circuit breakers, control functions, signalling and interlocking.
The MVAJ range comprises highly reliable hinged armature relays designed to directly operate circuit breaker trip coils. Built to very
high specifications, the MVAJ range provides a highly flexible and reliable link between the protective relays and the circuit breakers.

Introduction
BSS-3 series of GPS synchronization clock provides precise time display and signal output
based on the Global Positioning System( GPS ). GPS is a satellite-based navigation system
that uses a constellation of 24 satellites orbiting the earth and control stations on the ground
developed by USA. At any place and any time on the earth surface, when a receiver have
received enough GPS satellite signal, it can determine current position and accurate time after
calculation.
BSS-3 series of GPS synchronization clock uses Motorala GPS receiver which have 12
parallel receiving channels and an antenna with power supply. The receiver can achieve time
accuracy of nanoseconds level when it have detected 4 satellites and received it’s signals.
BSS-3 series of GPS synchronization clock is specialized for power system use, it is designed
and manufactured to fit the demand of various detecting, control, and fault recording devices,
it is a suitable solution for time synchronization systems require of excellent performances
and high stability.
Features
Various output signals: pulse, serial port, IRIG-B code, DCF77 code, all photoelectrical
separated from each other.
14 digits LED display on front panel, displaying year, month, date, hour, minute, second; and
LEDs indicate working state.
-1-
Construction
The device is a unit of 2U-19 inch rack made of alloy aluminum, equipped of a main board
bus inside and a antenna outside. It’s modules include 1 power supply module, 1 receiver
module and 6 output modules, are set in from backward.
The device’s LED display on front panel, shows year, month, date, hour, minute and second.
LED indicator shows device state, ‘Sync’ LED shows that it has detected more than 4
satellites, has got GPS time, a usual speaking of ‘position fixed’, ‘PPS’ LED indicates that
GPS receiver works, ‘OUTPUT’ LED indicates that output signals have been sent.
This high performance, high-power power supply module services for the other modules’
normal work, the input voltage is 100V~260V can be either AC or DC, the power rating is 50
watts, there are 3 sets of power supply: 5V/5A, +12V/1A and –12V/1A. The module has
supplied components such as power filters to withstand disturbance and 1 ‘device fault’
relay(T1, T2), 1 ‘alarm’ relay(C1, C2) contact, capacity of each contact is: 220AC 1A.
-2-
2. Receiver module
This module is equipped with GPS receiver and additional circuits for receive GPS signals
through antenna. Having detected signals from 4 satellites and calculated, it provides accurate
time.
3. Antenna
There are three optional length of antennas for uses to choose, 30 meters, 50 meters and 100
meters. If even the 100 meters antenna can’t fit use, a transfer clock BSS-3Y for long
distance use can be served.
Optional antenna A03: default option, 30 meters long with power supply, connector type
is BNC (diameter 15mm), diameter of cable is 5mm.
Optional antenna A05: 50 meters long with power supply, diameter of BNC connector is
15mm, diameter of cable is 7mm.
Optional antenna A10: 100 meters long with power supply, diameter of BNC connector
is 20mm, diameter of cable is 10.5mm.

Serial port connector is of DB9(pin) type, 2 type of signals can be send at the same time:
Pin1(-)|Pin2(+) for RS422(RS485), Pin3(TXD)|Pin5(COM) for RS232. They are seldom used
at the same time, because they are not photoelectrical separated. All serial output ports are
separated from each other. RS422(RS485) can transfer data as long as 500 meters(too long
will delay the synchronization), and RS232 30 meters.

Installation
shows as figure-7:
2. Equipment dimension
3. Installation of antenna
To observe 4 satellites at the same time and get it’s signals, The antenna should be installed at
places with broadly sky, it is best to fix it at the top of the building. You can fix the antenna to
the supporter we present with the equipment, and fix it at the top of the building with bolts.
When you install the antenna, you shouldn’t wheel sharp turn to the cable, the cable’s length
is designed according to strictly calculated amplitude and shouldn’t be cut or extended, in
case the receiver will not work.
4. Power on
When power connector, antenna and synchronization cables are all connected correctly, you
can switch on the power, 14 ‘8’ will be display on front panel, you can check if there are any

breaks on it. A moment later, date and time will be displayed, and show time run, ‘PPS’
indicator will blink, the time information may not be correct for receiver won’t fix
immediately, when absent to GPS signals, pulse and serial port output will not work, but
IRIG-B codes will send because the fix status is included in it. After a few minutes ‘Sync’
indicator flow and the clock will send out synchronization signals. When pulse and serial port
signals are send at 0 point every minute, ‘Output’ indicator will highlight once.
User device
There are 12 channels of pulse output on this unit, either 1PPS or 1PPM as user’s choice.
Change the selection as this way: unscrew it’s bolt and pull out the unit, you will see 12
selection pins on the board, it’s serial number is the same as it’s corresponding output contact,
you can set the jumpers as the board indicate according to your selection.
For open circuit output unit, it’s pulse width is 200mS, 300V/DC, 100mA.
For close circuit output unit, it’s pulse width is 200mS, 80V/DC, 25mA.
-6-
6. Connection of serial port synchronization
There are 4 serial port connectors on each S01 module( serial port synchronization output
module ). Each serial port connector is of DB9(pin) type, 2 type of signals can be send at the
same time: Pin1(-)|Pin2(+) for RS422(RS485), Pin3(TXD)|Pin5(COM) for RS232. They are
seldom used at the same time, because they are not photoelectrical separated.
Connection of serial port synchronization is shown as figure-12, figure-13.
The format is set as user’s contract. It seldom be changed out of the factory.
