2.3 CENTRAL REGION

The central region of the ALSPA HMI workspace provides access to the functions
and the data of the plant, to the viewers and the Configuration window etc.

The central region of the ALSPA HMI contains:

a. Explorer

The Explorer of the central region allows to navigate and to access the data and
functions of the plant (E.g., Historic data of variables, Trend, Mimics, Sequence
monitoring functions etc).

The Explorer contains:

 Plant: explores the data and functions of the plant

 Groups: explores the functions groups

 Favorites: explores all the shortcuts and the key shortcuts lists
The Explorer also provides a small window called Clipboard at the bottom of it. The
clipboard temporarily holds the variables.

The figure below shows the Explorer:

b. Work area

The work area of the central region allows to view the different viewers opened.
The opened viewers contain the following components in common:

 Viewers tabs bar: help the operator to navigate through various opened
viewers
The figure below shows the work area with the trend viewer opened:

CSCS MIMIC VIEWS BASIC PRINCIPLE .11/A

 Standard viewer tool bar:

The standard viewer tool bar helps the operator to display and manage the opened
viewers.
The standard viewer tool bar is associated to a viewer. It is visible only inside a
viewer.
The standard viewer tool bar contains:

 Navigation of groups

 Display of associated view

 Display of viewers in different screens

 Addition of viewers to shortcuts and key shortcuts

 Saving of the variable groups

CSCS MIMIC VIEWS BASIC PRINCIPLE .12/A

3 STANDARD SYMBOLS AND ANIMATION PROTOCOL

IEC 617-7 based standard symbols are used in mimic-views to give graphic
representation of the plant's equipment (see section 4, Standard Symbols Library),
and when needed, to show their actual physical state (see section 5, Standard
Animations). Symbols are classed into 2 types: the static and the dynamic
symbols.

Static symbols are not animated and are used to represent equipment having no
information attached to their operational real states. However, their presence in a
circuit brings a true and logical image of a functional system.

Dynamic symbols are used to indicate the equipment's actual states.

3.1 STATIC SYMBOLS

a) Static electrical symbols are shown with the colours of the single line diagram.

b) Static symbols representing connecting devices (circuit breakers, disconnecting

switches…) in their most frequent states (open, closed) are in white colour.

Circuit breaker normally OPEN Circuit breaker normally CLOSED

CSCS MIMIC VIEWS BASIC PRINCIPLE .15/A

c) Static mechanical devices are shown in the piping circuits colour:

Air valve Water filter Oil filter Oil-controlled water valve

3.2 DYNAMIC SYMBOLS

Dynamic connecting devices are represented with colour coded animations, e.g.:

Static Static Dynamic Dynamic

Circuit breaker Disconnecting switch Circuit breaker Disconnecting switch
Normally OPEN Normally OPEN OPEN OPEN

Static Static Dynamic Dynamic

Circuit breaker Disconnecting switch Circuit breaker Disconnecting switch
Normally CLOSED Normally CLOSED CLOSED CLOSED

Dynamic mechanical symbols are in grey-scaled colour with coloured animation

parts, e.g.:

Static valve Dynamic valve

CSCS MIMIC VIEWS BASIC PRINCIPLE .16/A

3.3 COMMANDABILITY

Two types of dynamic symbol represent the non-commandable and the remotely
commandable devices.

Non-commandable devices are represented by dynamic symbols showing in real-

time their actual state. See also section 5, Standard Animations.

In addition to the function described above, commandable devices give the operator
access to control windows enabling him to send remote commands.

Commandable devices are recognisable by their associated identification code

(equipment tag) included in a 3D button. The designation (selection) of a control
button opens a control window giving access to the available commands. See also
section 6, Control Windows.

The graphical difference between commandable devices and the non-commandable

ones is shown is the following examples:

NON-COMMANDABLE COMMANDABLE

3.4 TREATMENT OF ANIMATION DATA

Data linked with dynamic objects to graphically show the equipment states are
handled by Controlog system in the following ways:

INHIBITION OF AN INFORMATION
In case of maintenance or when an equipment becomes non-operational, the
operator can choose to ignore the state of a variable or a variables group so that to
avoid the apparition of false or repetitive alarms. For this purpose, a standard
function called inhibition has been made available to the operator.

A dynamic object whose associated variable has been inhibited is displayed with a
white background, e.g.:

INVALID STATE OF AN INFORMATION

The invalid (or doubtful) state of a variable is automatically detected and treated by
Controlog system. This may be caused by:

- A communication network fault

- A controller fault

- A sensor fault detected by a controller

In case of invalidity, the dynamic object is displayed with a grey background, for
example:

6.4 DIRECT COMMANDS

It is possible to transmit commands without opening a control window. Single pulse

commands are transmitted by simply clicking on the relevant command buttons in
mimic views.

This kind of commands can be used to send direct orders such as: emergency stop,
validation of a configuration…

Examples of direct command buttons existing in the standard symbols library:

7 NAVIGATION

A simple click on buttons placed in mimic views displays quickly the views having
close relation with the one currently on screen. Their functions are clearly indicated
on the buttons, as shown on the examples given below:

The standard buttons can easily be customised to suit the specific needs of a project.
