SECOND STEP QUICK SHEET

Second Step is the Atlanta Public Schools’ explicit SEL curriculum. All teachers need to log
onto the portal and create a NEW “Class” in order to access and teach the lessons. Utilize the
following one pager to log on, create your class for Second Step or watch this video guide.

How do I log onto Second Step?


New Teachers
Your name has been added to the Second Step system. You should have received an
invitation email from support@secondstep.org. If you do not see the email, please search
your APS email inbox. Follow the instructions in the email to create an account.
Important: When completing the account activation process, you must type in your aps
email ending in @atlanta.k12.ga.us to gain access. Any other ending will not work!
Returning Teachers
Go to SecondStep.org and log in by clicking “Go to My
Dashboard”. If you forget your password, simply reset it. You
will receive email instructions to reset your password and log
on. Once you are logged in, go to your dashboard and “create a
class.”
How do I create a class?
Creating a Class
“Creating a class” gives you access to your grade level
Second Step lessons and resources. It also allows you to
track your lesson progress. Please “create a class” for
every homeroom/SEL class they teach.
To create a class:
1. Click on the “create a class” tile on your dashboard.
2. Choose the grade level you will teach.
3. Name the class with your last name and the grade you
teach. i.e. “Welles, Grade 4”. If you teach multiple classes,
add A, B, C etc. after the grade.
4. Once you have created a class it will appear
on your Dashboard.
5. Click on “View Lessons” to access.
How do I teach the lessons?

Teaching the Second Step Lessons


1. Begin with unit 1.
2. Read the overview of the unit and watch the quick start video.

3. Then scroll down to view the lesson materials.

4. Click “lesson plan” to view the script


and teach to play the slideshow.
5. when you are finished teaching each
lesson, click “Mark Lesson as Done”
