A coffee shop.

SAMUEL and BARB are sitting, drinking

coffee.

Enter CHRISTY.

SAMUEL
She’s right there.

BARB
So?

SAMUEL
I have to go.

BARB
No.

SAMUEL
I can’t be here now.

BARB
You have to get over it. Now’s the time.

SAMUEL
Why now?

BARB
You’re here. She’s here. It’s Fate.

SAMUEL
I don’t believe in Fate.

BARB
Believe in something!

Christy turns and spots them.

CHRISTY
Samuel? Oh my god Samuel!

SAMUEL
Hey Christy. It’s been a while, hasn’t it?
2.

CHRISTY
What’s it been, like two weeks or something?

BARB
That’s a long time in dog years.

CHRISTY
Right? I feel like it’s been forever. Like, forever.

BARB
That long, huh?

SAMUEL
It’s forever.

BARB
And a day.

CHRISTY
I was in Cabo for the first week.

SAMUEL
After you dumped me?

CHRISTY
Sand and sun was so necessary.

BARB
Was it.

CHRISTY
Just to wash off the negativity.

BARB
Would wanna feel negative.

CHRISTY
I know, right?

BARB
I do know.

CHRISTY
Just to get away and find myself again.
3.

BARB
Where were you?

CHRISTY
In Cabo.

BARB
Of course you were. I just forgot.

CHRISTY
Then on my way home, I changed my mind.

BARB
(to Samuel)
You see, her mind changed.

SAMUEL
--

BARB
You see?

CHRISTY
Instead of home, I flew to South Beach.

BARB
I hear Miami is lovely in the spring.

CHRISTY
It totally was. Magical.

SAMUEL
Magical.

CHRISTY
Sometimes, when there’s so much stress, I just can’t.

SAMUEL
Right.

CHRISTY
It was the second week, though...
4.

BARB
(aside)
Here it comes the best revelation of all time.
(beat)
Of all time.

CHRISTY
Transcendence. I could finally see the reality of life.

BARB
And what exactly is the transcendent reality of life?

CHRISTY
I’m the victim.

SAMUEL
Victim? You’re the one who dumped me.

CHRISTY
I won’t be publicly humiliated!

Christy exits.

BARB
Well...

SAMUEL
--

BARB
She won’t be publicly humiliated.

SAMUEL
I think I can finish my coffee now.

BARB
Sounds good.

They drink their coffee.

End.
