dan meminta informasi terkait penulisan laporan sederhana dengan
memperhatikan fungsi sosial, struktur teks dan unsur kebahasaan yang benar dan
sesuai dengan konteks penggunaannya.

REPORT TEXT
1. Definition of report text
Report text is a text which presents information about something as it is. It a results of systematic
observation and analyses.The purpose of report text is presenting information about something. It
generally describe an entire class of things, whether natural or made, mammals, the planents, rocks,
plants, countries of region, culture, transportation,etc.
2. Generic Structure of Report Text
a. General Classification
Stating classification of general aspect of thing such as animal, public place, plant, etc, which
will be discussed in general.
b. Description
Tells what the phenomenon under discussion, in terms of parts, qualities, habits or behaviors.
3. Language features of Report Text
 Use of general nouns
Example : hunting dogs, honey bee
 Use relating verbs to describer features
 Some use of action verbs when describing behaviors
Example : Emus cannot fly
 Use of timeless present tense to indicate usualness
Example : often, usually, always
 Use of technical terms
 Use photographs with topic sentences to organize bundles of information, repeated naming of
the topic as the beginning focus of the clause
4. Example of report text
ELEPHANTS
Elephants are the largest land animals on earth, and they are one of the most unique-looking
animals too with the characteristics long noses and trunks, large floppy ears, and wide thick legs, there is
no other animal with a similar physique.
Most experts recognize two species of elephants; the Asian elephants (Elephas maximus) and the
African elephants (Loxodonta afrianca), who live on separate continents and have many unique
features. They are several subspecies that belong to on or the other of these two main species, though
experts argue over how many subspecies there are and whether or not they constitute separate species.
African elephants live in sub-saharan, the rainforest of central and west Africa and the Sahel desert
in Mali, According to National geographic. Asian elephants live in Nepal, India, and southeast Asia in
scrub forests and rainforest.
