Q. 1 (a) Design a Lap joint between plates 100mm* 8mm so as to transmit a factored [04]
load of 100 kN using black bolts of 12mm diameter and grade 4.6. Draw neat
3N
detailed sketch of the connection.
Q. 1 (b) An axially loaded truss member is made-up of 2ISA 100*100*8mm connected [06]
on both the sides of a gusset plate of 12mm thick ( ). The ultimate axial 3N
factored load carried by the member is 350kN.
Design the bolted connection with 20mm diameter black bolts of grade 5.6.
Assume the Ultimate strength (fu) of the member is 410N/mm2. Draw neat
detailed connection.
Q.2 Attempt any Two [10]
(a) Design a column (I-section) to support a factored load Pu kN. The column has 2N
an effective length of 6m.
Pu= 5*(100+ last three digit of your ID No.) kN.
(*if ID No. is 19CE105, then Pu= 5*(100+105)=1025 kN)
(b) Design an angle section to support a compressive load Pu kN. Take effective 2N
length 2.50m.
Pu= 0.25*(200+ last three digit of your ID No.) kN.
(*if ID No. is 19CE105, then Pu= 0.25*(200+105)=76.25 kN)
(c) An ISA 150 x 150 x 10 mm is used as a strut in a truss. The length of member 1N
is 2.50m between the intersections and connected with one bolts at each ends.
Determine the compressive strength of the strut.

Q. 3 Design a double lacing column with channel provided toe-to-toe subjected to [10]
an axial force P kN. The effective length of the column is 8m. Draw necessary 1N
sketches.
P= 5*(200+ last three digit of your ID No.) kN.
(*if ID No. is 17CE105, then P= 5*(200+105)=1525 kN)
