with my grandfather?" Shows that Son is questioning his mother rather than
following her instructions. At first, son was accepting whatever mother told him
and he tried to follow mother's rules and instructions. But now, son realized that
he should do the right thing which is to care for grandfather and stop following
his mother's instructions. son feels that showing sympathy towards grandfather is
much more important than showing empathy towards mother. Son now wants mother to
understand that son's relationship with grandfather is much more important than his
education. However, mother insist with son that Son should only focus on his
studies and nothing else. This moment shows how conflicted mother and son is. Hence
the audience feel that the relationship between mother and son is getting worse but
audience are still happy that son is finally ready to care for grandfather.

moment, mother is forcing son to follow her instructions although son is not

opinions. Mother is doing everything according to what she thinks is right. She
wants to have control of the situation. Mother is also insensitive as she wants to
do everything but does not consider how she makes others feel. Mother wants Son to
follow her instructions. However, she does not care how son might feel. hence, the
audience will feel angry towards mother because mother is not showing concern for
son's feelings. Mother only does the things that she thinks are right. This also
makes the audience feel that mother is inconsiderate over son's feelings.

3) Another moment in act 1 scene 1 shows the relationship between grandfather and
son. The moment shows that the relationship between grandfather and son is worse.
In this moment, when mother asks son to partly take care of grandfather, son says
that he does not want to, showing his lack of interest. In act 1 scene 1,"why must
it be always me?" Shows that son is unwilling to take care of grandfather. Mother
asked so little of him, just to be around, but he is selfish so he does not care
about grandfather. Son feels that he is not the one who is supposed to take care of
grandfather. Son wants others to take care of grandfather instead. Hence, the
audience will feel that son is not caring or not interested to care for grandfather
and the relationship between them is worse. Moreover, son thinks that grandfather
is a burden of the family rather than a person who should receive care and concern.

4) Another moment in act 2 scene 3 shows the relationship between grandfather and
son. The moment shows that the relationship between grandfather and son is getting
better. In this moment, son is reflecting on the book of Flowers For Algernon. In
act 2 scene 3,"but having a heart... Being able to care... Even for a mouse... A
laboratory mouse..." Shows that son is learning to care for grandfather and stop
running away from helping grandfather. From the start of the play, son views
grandfather as a burden and a person that Son wants to be distant with as son fears
of the generational gap. But now, son knows that grandfather needs his help and he
should stop ignoring grandfather and following his mother's instructions. Son
finally understood that he should rather show sympathy towards grandfather than
empathy towards mother. Son learns that academics is not everything and caring for
people is more important than anything. Hence, the audience will feel elated that
son is finally bonding and caring for his grandfather. Son is also now beginning to
be concerned and think for his grandfather.

grandfather. The moment shows that the relationship between mother and grandfather
is worse. In this moment, when grandfather comes to mother's house and tries to
assert his independence, mother is not allowing him to do so. In act 1 scene 1,"I
can call. You rest." Shows that mother is well-intentionally controlling
grandfather. Although grandfather wants to help himself, mother does not allow him
to do so. She has to do everything according to what she thinks is right. She wants
to have control of the situation. Mother is also insensitive as she wants to do
everything but does not consider how she makes others feel. Having mother to do
everything for grandfather, grandfather might feel as if he is weak and a burden of
the family. The audience will feel angry towards mother because mother is not
showing concern for grandfather's feelings. Mother only does the things that she
thinks are right. This also makes the audience feel that mother is inconsiderate
towards grandfather's feelings.

6) Another moment in act 2 scene 1 shows the relationship between mother and
grandfather. The moment shows that the relationship between mother and grandfather
is worse. In this moment, mother is questioning grandfather about the new gadget.
In act 2 scene 1, "what's wrong with your blood pressure? She didn't say anything
about your blood pressure." Shows that mother is panicking because of the new
gadget. Mother is unhappy as the new gadget gets in the way of her plans. She wants
everything to go as she wishes. however, when they don't, mother is frustrated.
Mother did not give grandfather any chances for him to explain or answer her
questions. This shows how dominating mother is. The audience will feel angry
towards mother because she is inconsiderate over others' feelings and all she wants
is everything to go as her plans.
