José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport

José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport (IATA: GYE, ICAO: SEGU) is the airport
of the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador. It is the Ecuadorian airport with the most traffic of
international passengers; also, the second airport with the most movement in general of
passengers in Ecuador. José Joaquín de Olmedo was named in honor of the Guayaquil
poet and hero, the first mayor of the city of Guayaquil. In 2011 it was chosen by the
Airports Council International (ACI) as the "best airport in the world by size", from to 5
million people.2 It was also selected as the best airport in Latin America and the
Caribbean in 2013 and 2015. The José Joaquín de Olmedo airport tax since December
2017 is US$31.97 for international flights and US$10.46 for flights within the country,
(Since February 9, 2011, airport taxes are included in the air ticket). It is considered one
of the best airports in the world. It is the operations center of the airline LATAM Ecuador.
