Welcome to the Internet and Computing Fundamentals II Module on Working


with Shapes.
This Self-Learning Module was collaboratively designed, developed and
reviewed by educators from the Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed by its
Officer-in-Charge Schools Division Superintendent, Ma. Evalou Concepcion A.
Agustin, in partnership with the City Government of Pasig through its Mayor,
Honorable Victor Ma. Regis N. Sotto. The writer utilized the standards set by the K
to 12 Curriculum using the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) in
developing this instructional resource.

This learning material hopes to engage the learners in guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims to help learners
acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5 Cs, namely: Communication,
Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Character while taking into
consideration their needs and circumstances.

LESSON 1

MS Word includes drawing tools that would enable you to create your own
shapes, lines, texts, arrows, and many other options to draw with.

CREATING AUTO-SHAPES

To insert a shape:
1. Select the Insert tab, go to the Illustrations group, and then click
the Shapes command. A drop-down menu of shapes will appear.
2. Select the desired shape you want from the drop-down menu of
shapes.

3. Click the mouse on the document and drag it to draw the shape.

4. Resizing the shape is like resizing the ClipArt and picture.
5. Combine any of the basic shapes to create an object.
6. Click outside the drawing to deselect the command.

After creating your shape, the Ribbon displays the Drawing Tools Format
tab. These Drawing tools will allow you to format, design, and modify
your drawing.
FORMATTING SHAPES

1. Right-click on the shape to show the context menu.


2. Select the Format AutoShape from the context menu.
3. The format shape task pane will appear.
4. There are three icons namely FILL & LINE EFFECTS, and LAYOUT
PROPERTIES.

5. Click any one of the icons to show the menu.


6. Select the design, effects, and layout you want to apply.
7. Besides the object, there is a LAYOUT OPTIONS icon, when you click, will
you layout tools.

To resize a shape:
1. Select the shape you want to resize. Sizing handles will appear on
the corners and sides of the shape.

2. Click and drag the sizing handles until the shape is the desired
size. You can use the corner sizing handles to change the shape's
height and width at the same time.

3. To rotate the shape, click and drag the rotation handle.

To change the shape style:


Choose a shape style that allows you to apply preset colors and effects to
change the appearance of your shape.
1. Choose the shape you want to change.
2. Click the Format tab, to select from the drop-down list in the
Shape Styles group.

3. A drop-down menu of styles will appear. Select the style you want
to use.

SELECTING COLORS FROM THE COLOR LIBRARY

You can change the color and shading of an object from the Drawing Tools Format
Tab or the Context Menu.

1. Right-click on the shape you want to apply color, and on the CONTEXT
MENU, click the FORMAT AUTO SHAPES.
2. On the FORMAT AUTO SHAPES dialog box, choose the COLOR AND LINES
tab.
3. Choose the FILL COLOR drop-down arrow and select the color you want to
apply.
4. You can also click the FILL EFFECTS to apply GRADIENT, TEXTURE,
PATTERN, or PICTURE effects and click OK.
5. Right-click on the shape you want to apply color, and on the CONTEXT
MENU, click the FORMAT SHAPES.
6. On the FORMAT SHAPE task pane, choose the FILL AND LINE icon.
7. Click the Fill category and select from the fill options.
8. If you select the Solid Fill, the Theme Colors gallery will appear where you
can select the color that you want to apply.

ADDING GRADIENTS, TEXTURE AND PICTURE FILLS

1. Right-click on the object and on the Context Menu select Format Shape.
2. On the Format Shape task pane, select Picture or Texture Fill or Pattern
Fill.
3. Select from the gallery of pictures, textures, and pattern which you would like
to apply to the object.
ACTIVITIES
