    The BIG Words
    Statistics is a branch of mathematics that deals with the systematic method of
    collecting, classifying, presenting, analyzing and interpreting quantitative or
    numerical data.

    Variable is a representative of interest measurable on each and every specific thing.


    It refers to a property that can take on different values or categories which cannot
    be predicted with certainty.

    A variable may also be called a data item. For example age, sex, business income
    and expenses, country of birth, capital expenditure, class grades, eye color and
    vehicle type are examples of variables.
    The Two Branches of Statistics

    It involves the tabulating, depicting, and describing of


    DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS collections of data. These data may be either
    quantitative or qualitative. They provide a picture or
    description of the properties of data collected in order
    to summarize them into manageable form.

    Tests concerned with using selected sample data


    INFERENTIAL STATISTICS compared with population data in a variety of ways are
    called inferential statistical tests
