Week 02 - Task: Assignment - A job

interview

1.Learning outcome:

Unidad 1: Jobs and education

Logro específico de aprendizaje: Al finalizar la unidad, el estudiante explica su elección

de carrera para determinar sus retos utilizando gramática y vocabulario pertinentes.

2. Lesson Outcome:  

Through this activity, a group of two or three students create a dialog about demanding

jobs in a job interview by using have to/has to and can/can’t. Then, they share it in a

short video.

3. Description:  

Step 1: 

Choose the partner(s) you want to work with and get together. Decide on the roles

each one will play (an interviewer and one or two applicants) and the job offer (Human

Resources assistant, system engineer, bank clerk, etc.).

Step 2:  

Think about the skills needed to be successful in that job and make a list

using have to/has to.  Remember your role in the conversation.

For example: Be sociable, be creative, be patient, be a good leader, be

good with numbers, be a good listener, be empathic, work well with people, work under

pressure, have good communicative skills, solve problems.

Example:

(applicant) I have to be a good listener and have good memory. Or (interviewer) The

person for the job has to be proactive.

Be empathetic and tolerant.


Be efficient in your work.
Have communication skills and ease of speech.
Have experience in the field and good interpersonal relationships.
Be proactive and take initiative.

I have to have empathy and tolerance with the staff.

The person for the job has to master communication skills and must have a way with
words.
The person for the job must have good interpersonal relationships and experience in
the field.
I have to be proactive in my job performance.
Step 3:

Make a list of questions that interviewers and applicants commonly make in

a job interview. 

Look at the examples. Use can / can’t / have to / has to. 

Interviewer: Can you work on weekends? 

Applicant: Do I have to travel?  

Good day what is your name?


My name is............
What do you do for a living?
I am a Civil Engineer with 1 year of experience.
What is your time availability?
From Monday to Friday, because on weekends I am studying a master's degree.
Full time.

What company have they worked for?

Contractors S.R.L - Cuzco

G.I.A.S.A.C Company -Puno

How are they defined at work?


I am empathic and dominate the staff with communication and tolerance.

I am proactive and have mastery of communication skills.

What are your goals when you join this company?

Demonstrate that I am an efficient professional.

Demonstrate all the knowledge learned towards the field of work.


Step 4: 

Now, it’s time to make the dialog (interview) using the lists in step 2 and step 3. Then,

practice the conversation. 

Interviewer: student A

Applicant: student B  

Step 5:

Record the interview taking the following structure into consideration:

Cover: Your names and last names must be there, include your photo. There are 2

options to do it: (Choose one) 

•    Inside your mp4 video 

•    In a Word format with the YouTube link. 

Greeting: Before the dialog, you should appear saying your name and last name. (It’s

very important to show your face)

Dialog

Closing: Finish the dialog by saying goodbye. 

INTERVIEWER (Christian) Good morning, what is your name?


APPLICANT 1 (Flor): My name is Flor María Huamán Manayay.
APPLICANT 2 (Giovan) :My name is Giovan Solano Moreno.

INTERVIEWER (Christian) :Why did you decide to apply for this job?
APPLICANT 1 (Flor): Because I have communication skills and empathy.
APPLICANT 2 (Giovan): Because I am proactive and my performance is efficient.

INTERVIEWER (Christian): Do you have full time for work?


Applicant 1 (Flor): I can't full time because I'm taking a specialization.
Applicant 2 (Giovan): Yes, I have full time.
INTERVIEWER (Christian) :What is your experience in the field?
Applicant 1 (Flor): I worked a year in the Contractors S.R.L - Cuzco
Applicant 2 (Giovan): I worked a two years in the G.I.A.S.A.C Company -Puno

INTERVIEWER (Christian): How would you solve a problem with the staff?

Applicant 1 (Flor): First, both versions are searched and then decisions are made

through dialogue.

Applicant 2 (Giovan): We look for those involved to mention what happened and then

decide what to do.

INTERVIEWER (Christian): The person for the job must have a good professional and

work performance. How do you define yourself at work?

Applicant 1 (Flor): I am empathic and manage good interpersonal relationships.

Applicant 2 (Giovan): I am proactive and my performance is efficient.

ENTREVISTADOR (Christian) : Thank you very much, we are contacting you if you are

selected.

Postulante 2 (Giovan): Thank you, see you
