Simulation Crisis 2 Reflection

Customer: 32%

Employee: 39%

Shareholder: 13%

Our percentage scores dropped from last week to this week. I thought that our team did
okay, but I preferred the way we played the simulation last week batter than this week.
Last week we played the simulation live over a facetime call and went around and
shared what our challenge was and our choice and the thought process behind why we
made the choice we did. This week we just texted in the group chat and said when our
turn was completed. I didn’t take away as much from communicating this way. Next
week I will recommend to my team that we go back to making a scheduled facetime call
to make doing the simulation much easier and hopefully improve our scores.

2. How did your individual decisions compare to those of your teammates?

It’s really hard to say how my decisions compared with my teammates because we
didn’t have much communication on the decisions we made and why we made them
this week. I would have to assume that we weren’t on the same page because our
scores went down. I think this was a direct correlation between our lack of
communication.

3. Think of the crisis and your team's decisions. Which theory or theories in the textbook
(Ch.s 1-7, 14) you have studied so far are applicable to this crisis?  Explain.

While thinking of the current crisis in the simulations and the decisions we have made
as a team I saw the path-goal theory being used. Specifically, the achievement-oriented
approach. We all took on the decision making for our role within the simulation. I think
that the participative leadership approach would be much more effective to increase our
group interaction.

4. What is your demonstrated leadership style in this week’s game? Have you used this
style in your personal life or in your job as a leader? Give an example.

My demonstrated leadership style was directive again this week. I do find myself
utilizing a more directive approach lately with my social life, work, and schoolwork. I
would find myself hoping for the best after giving some direction and being let down by
the result. I think this was a mixture of being not having confidence in my abilities to
lead but I am confident that I can get the job done, I was just going about it with the
wrong approach. This week I was tasked with putting together the employee relations
events for housekeeping week at the hotel I work at. I delegated a couple tasks that
needed to be done for the ice cream Sunday station and when I arrived right before it
started the setup was not what I expected. I realize that if I would have used a more
direct approach and used a diagram or specified exactly how I needed the setup it
would have been done differently. The next day we had a lunch for the housekeepers. I
made sure I was in the conference room ahead of time and gave specific instructions
for the team that was helping me, down to the color and how I wanted the balloons
positioned. I left and came back right before the lunch and everything was just how I
asked.
