The document discusses practical work approach (PWA) and kinesthetic work approach (KWA) in mathematics teaching. PWA involves using real objects that can be touched and manipulated to make fraction teaching more effective and meaningful. KWA emphasizes direct student participation and problem solving through movement, games, and activities to help students focus and remember material. Both approaches involve manipulating physical items or actions and active student participation. However, PWA specifically involves using objects to study mathematical concepts, while KWA focuses more on hands-on activities and using all the senses. Examples of each are given.

De Asis, Trisha Gaile G. Villacruz, Pilar P. Course & Year: BS MATH IV FREE ELECTIVE II TEACHING METHODS IN MATHETICS GROUP ACTIVITY 10 a. What is Practical Work Approach (PWA) in mathematics? The practical work approach is the most effective way to improve learning and comprehension of mathematical topics. It enables students to reason out the mathematical principles contained within the numerous activities, so developing critical thinking skills. A practical method is one in which teachers use actual objects that can be touched, manipulated, and used effectively in the teaching and learning process. Practical approach is defined in fraction teaching and learning as the process of inventing materials and/or bringing in real objects that may be used as teaching aids to make fraction teaching and learning effective, meaningful, exciting, and joyful to learners. In this approach, learners manipulate concrete things and/or engage in activities to gain a conceptual grasp of a phenomenon, situation, or concept. The environment is a laboratory in which natural events/phenomena can be studied mathematically or scientifically. b. What is Kinesthetic Work Approach (KWA) in mathematics? The kinesthetic approach to teaching emphasizes on direct participation from students, allowing them to find their knowledge and particular potential. The term "kinesthetic" refers to muscular movement that occurs in response to visual, aural, and tactile input. Students begin to solve problems more creatively when they study arithmetic via movement, games, and activities. They benefit from the exercise provided by kinesthetic math games in terms of focusing and remembering new course material. c. What are their similarities? • Assists students in gaining a deeper understanding of the material. • Both manipulate physical items and/or carry out actions. • Students are expected to actively participate. • Enhance your skill set. • Encourages and heightens pupils' interest in the subject. • Aids in the development of social skills. d. Differentiate the two, and give illustrations/examples.
In practical work approach, learners manipulate concrete things and/or engage in activities to gain a conceptual grasp of a phenomenon, situation, or concept. The environment is a laboratory in which natural events/phenomena can be studied mathematically or scientifically. As an example, students were asked to calculate/compute for the total speed of a car per hour and come up with a conclusion. On the other hand, kinesthetic learners are hands-on and thrive when they use all of their senses throughout course work, taking on a physically active role. Because of the course's hands-on lab component, these students perform well in scientific research. As an example, students were asked to do/make a project that showcase their creativeness.
