TOPIC: BASIC SKILLS IN ROUNDERS

Competency
The learner creates improvised equipment for Rounders and perform basic
techniques of the game with consideration of rules as well as safety

ROUNDERS
• Is a Batting and fielding game with 3 basic skills of
bowling, batting and fielding.
The game involves striking a ball thrown by a player
called bowler using a batting stick
There is bowling team and a defending team
(fielders), who have the task of recovering and
returning a ball at a given point as quickly as possible,
that is what is called fielding
The team players alternate between batting and
fielding

Uses of the Equipment's used in Rounders
 The Ball is thrown and hit (bowled and batted)
 The Bat is used to hit a thrown ball
 The Skittles area used to mark the play area
 The Whistle is used by the referee/teacher
 The head gear is worn by the batter in case he/she is hit
by the ball on the head, however if it not available the
player can still play
 The glove is worn by the bowler

Safety Measures
It is important to know what measures to take in
order to be safe during play.
For batting and fielding games , the major
precautions include;
i. Do not stand too close to the batters
ii. Keep your eyes always on the ball
iii. Do not aim the ball at each other during practice
etc. etc.

How to play Rounders
 The bowler bowls the ball to the batter
 The batter bats the ball as hard as possible and then runs
around the 4 skittles.
 If the batter is able to get a skitter1 before the bowler says
‘stop’. , he or she scores round.
 The fielders collect the batted ball as fast as possible and
throw it to the bowler.
 Once the bowler receives the ball from the fielder he or she
call ‘stop’
 The batter should stop immediately.
 If the batter has not yet reached skittle 1 , he or she loses a
round.

Note: Picking and throwing the batted ball is called fielding and
the player who does this is called
