a. Analysis

Based on our activity, what do you think is Sir, our lesson for today is all about grief and
our lesson for today? healthy adulting.

Yes! You almost go it! Our topic for today is

all about the importance of grieving and
healthy aging, to be exact.

Class, do you know that grief is associated Yes sir. Stress links the emotional and
with stress? physical aspects of grief. The grief we feel if
we lost someone results to stress.

What is grief? Grief is an intense emotion from a loss,

disaster or misfortune. According to Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC),
grief is a normal response to loss during or
after a disaster or other traumatic event.
Common grief reactions include:
 Shock, disbelief, or denial
 Anxiety
 Distress
 Anger
 Periods of sadness
 Loss of sleep and loss of appetite
Some people may experience multiple losses
during a disaster or large-scale emergency
event. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic,
you might not be able to be with a loved one
when they die, or unable to mourn someone’s
death in person with friends and family. Other
types of grief include unemployment, or not
making enough money, loss or reduction in
support service, and other changes in your
lifestyle.

What are the stages of grieving?

1. Stage one- denial, shock or disbelief.
It begins after hearing the death of a
loved one. Manifestation maybe
crying confusion, stress or not
believing the death. It typically last
about two weeks.
2. Stage two – despair, numbness,
apathy. It begins after the survivor
have realized the death and usually
lasts one year. It is common for
survivors to experience loss of
appetite, insomnia, and crying spells.
3. Stage three – recovery and resolution.
It occurs one year or fifteen months
after the death. Survivor is completely
over the emotion of death but
sometimes feel depression. Sadness
will occasionally occur. The survivor
may recall positive memories of the
deceased be able to return to normal
activities, accept death, and try to
move on with life.
Do you know that grieving, on a positive
note, plays an important part in ourlives?

Yes sir! According to University of

Washington, grieving such as losses is
important because it allows us to “free-up”
energy that is bound to the lost person, object
or experience- so that we might re-invest that
energy elsewhere. Until we grieve effectively,

alone. Healthy grieving results in an ability to
remember the importance of our loss- but
with a newfound sense of peace, rather than
searing pain.

Moving on, what is dying and death?

Sir, dying is the process of approaching

death. While death is the end of life.
We have different stages of dying. What are
those?

1. Denial – most dying individuals when

informed of terminal illness refuse to
believe. It is a healthy response to a
stressful situation, and it acts as a
temporary buffer to help protect the
individual.
2. Anger – after denial of terminally ill
individuals, they typically become angry,
resentful, and hostile. Anger may be
directed at loved ones and expressed
through shouting, complaining, and
bitterness.
3. Bargaining – typically occurs throughout
most of the dying process, characterized
by the terminally ill individual bargaining
to prolong life with someone in power,
such as physician or God.
4. Depression – terminally ill individual
bounce back and forth from bargaining to
depression stages. Realizing bargaining
did not work, they become depressed.
They begin to understand death is certain
feelings of sadness and depression is
overwhelming.
5. Acceptance – the last stage. In this stage,
the person accepts the outcome of death.
Dying individual make psychological
arrangements, such as funeral arrangement
and writing a will. Children should

Negativities aside, healthy aging is highly

encouraged to have a bright and stress-free
future ahead of us. So, after we grief, after we
mourn, it is necessary to get back ourlives to
the rail. Engagement in healthy activities and
diet should always be practiced.

So class, what is healthy aging?

Sir, Aging is the process of becoming older.
It is a process that is genetically determined
and environmentally modulated.

improve physical and mental health,
independence and quality of life throughout
the life course.

Physical changes
a. Reaction deteriorates as people age. Body
senses diminish due to a loss of nerve
cells. A little short-term memory may be
lost but not intelligence.
b. Hearts may become less efficient when
aging, blood might not well circulate and
blood vessels may become clogged
causing increase blood pressure.
c. Older people have less protection from
communicable disease and prone to
develop chronic disease.
d. Lungs become less elastic when aging
and may lessen hold of air volume that
may lead to short of breath. This increases
risk of chronic bronchitis, emphysema,
and flu. Avoiding second hand smoke,
getting cold and wet during severe
weather, and exercising regularly
decrease this risk.
e. Bones decrease density and take longer to
heal broken bones when aging

Mental changes
People can lose short term memory as
they age and some develop dementia.
Dementia is a general decline on all areas of
mental functioning usually due to brain
disease or mental impairment. An aging
individual should work to stay mentally
sharp by using their mental skills, drink at
least 8 glasses of water a day, avoid alcohol
and drug abuse, and should be cautious and
avoid accidents that may affect mental
health.

Social changes

To wrap up today’s lesson, it is indeed very

important to grief or to feel emotional lows at
times. It reminds us that we, people are just

emotions that alters depending on the
circumstances. Those pains and tears have
reciprocity and those will remind us that life
