will divide you into five groups (each group will use
THINK, PAIR and SHARE strategy).

ACTIVITY: PICTURE ANALYSIS

Here are the given pictures.

(The class will browse and analyze the pictures.)

 Provide each group with pictures.

 Let the learners identify the difference of the
pictures
 Guide the students to answer the following:
 What is/are the picture?
They are the famous fast food chains here in the
Teacher: Exactly! Philippines.

 What have you observed on the picture?

The pictures are consists of the logos of different fast

 Did you find any similarities?

Yes, Ma’am! All of them are selling fast foods.
Teacher: Very good!

 Are you aware that there have many branches

all around the world? Yes. We know that, Ma’am!

Teacher: Yes, we are very aware of that but despite of

that we must still value our very own Filipino brand which Yes, Ma’am. That is true. We must be proud of it.

b. Did you encounter any difficulty in finding the
products? Why?

D. EXPLORE

In mathematics, a polynomial is an expression

consisting of variable and coefficients, that involves
only the operations of addition, subtraction,
multiplication, and non-negative exponentiation of
variables. An example of a polynomial of a single
indeterminate x is x 2−4 x+7 .

There are special names for polynomials with

1,2, or 3 terms:

4 xy 5 x−1 2
x + 4 y +2
Monomial Binomial Trinomial
(1 term) (2 term) (3 term)
In your notebook, we are going to find the GCF and give
the answer in factored form.

E. EXPLAIN
BIG IDEA!

The teacher will discuss this statement.

Common monomial factoring is the process of

writing a polynomial as a product of two polynomials,
one of which is a monomial that factors each term of the
polynomial.

Every expression has itself and the number 1 as

a factor. These are called the trivial factors. If a
monomial is the product of two or more variables or
numbers, then it will have factors other than itself and 1.

The Greatest Common Factor (GCF) of twom

or more monomials is the common factor having the
greatest numerical factor and with variables having
atleast degree. Thus term ax n is the GCF of a
polynomial if:
 a is the greatest integer that divides each of the
coefficients of the polynomials; and
 n is the smallest exponent of x in all the terms of
the polynomial
To obtain the factors of a polynomial, we must

Step 1: Identify the GCF of the polynomial.

Step 2: Divide the GCF out every term of the polynomial

Examples.

1. 4 x2 +6 x
GCF: 4 x2 =2*2*x*x Their common are, 2*x=2x
6 x =2*3*x
2
4 x 6 x 2∗2∗x∗x 3∗2∗x
+ = + =2 x +3
2x 2 x 2∗x 2∗x

Therefore, the factor of 4 x2 +6 x is 2 x(2 x +3)

2. 2 x 4 y3 + 4 x 2 y 2 2*x*x*y*y=2 x2 y 2
GCF 2 x 4 y3 = 2*x*x*x*x*y*y*y Step 1
4 x2 y 2= 2*2*x*x*y*y

Step 2: Divide the GCF out every term of the

polynomial

2 x4 y3 4 x2 y2
+
2 x2 y 2 2 x 2 y 2
2× x × x × x × x × y × y × y 2× 2× x × x × y × y
¿ + =x 2 y +2
2×x ×x× y× y 2× x × x × y × y
Therefore, the factor of 2 x 4 y3 + 4 x 2 y 2 is
2 2
2 x y ( x ¿¿ 2 y +2)¿
F. ELABORATE
Guide Questions for Generalization:

 What is a polynomial? Polynomial is an expression of one or more algebraic

terms.
 How can we obtain the factors of polynomials using
common monomial factor? through the GCF

 What concepts have you learned from factoring that

can be applied in your daily living? I can say that there is only one thing we needed in doing
the right thing in life just like finding the value of a
variable before acting on a certain task.
Note: Teacher must correct immediately the wrong
response of the learner.

V. EVALUATE

I. Find the greatest common factor of each pair of monomials.

2. 12 a and 36 ab
3. 6 a∧20 a2 b

II. Factor completely polynomials with common monomial factor.

4. 5 a(a+3)−c (a+3)
5. 6(3 b−1)+5 a(1−3 b)+ 4 c (3 b−1)

VI. EXTEND

1. Find the GCF and Factor each completely.

a. 7 m 5 ( m+n )+ 14 m3( m+ n)
