He graduated in Civil Engineering from University of California, Berkeley. He was the lead structural
engineering of the Twin Towers of the original World Trade Center in New York City, and served as structural
engineer on numerous other projects, including the U.S Steel Tower in Pittsburgh, Shanghai World Financial

Joseph Strauss

Joseph Strauss (09 January, 1870 – 16 May, 1938) was a American structural engineer. He graduated
from University of Cincinnatiin, Ohio, United States of America. He was the designer of the Burnside Bridge
(1926) in Portland, Oregon, and the Lewis and Clark Bridge (1930) over the Columbia River between
Longview, Washington, and Rainier Oregon. He also worked with the Dominion Bridge Company in building
the Cherry Street Strauss Trunnion Bascule Bridge (1931) in Toronto, Ontario. In 1912 he designed the HB&T
Railway bascule bridge over Buffalo Bayou in Houston, Texas. In the early 1920s, when public opinion in San
Francisco was beginning to favour a bridge over the Golden Gate, Strauss submitted a design proposal that was
received with cautious enthusiasm, for the span length was more than double that of any existing bridge. He
eventually modified his original concept of a combination suspension-cantilever into one of a simple
suspension bridge with a main span of 1,280 metres. The Golden Gate Bridge remained the longest bridge in
the world until construction of the Verrazzano Narroes Bridge, New York City, in the 1960s.

Pier Luigi Nervi

Pier Luigi Nervi (21 January, 1891 – 09 January, 1979) was a Italian structural engineer and
architect. He graduated from University of Bologna, Italy. Nervi is known worldwide as a structural engineer
and architect for his innovative use of reinforced concrete, especially with numerous notable thin shell
structures worldwide.During the 1940s he developed ideas for reinforced concrete which helped in the
rebuilding of many buildings and factories throughout Western Europe. Most of his built structures are in his
native Italy, but he also worked on projects abroad. Nervi's first project in the United States was the George
Washington Bridge Bus Station, for which he designed the roof, which consists of triangular pieces that were
cast in place. This building is still used today by over 700 buses and their passengers.

Sir Henry Charles Husband

Sir Henry Charles Husband (30 October, 1908 – 07 October, 1983), often known as H. C.
Husband, was a leading British civil and consulting engineer from Sheffield, England, who designed bridges
and other major civil engineering works. He graduated from Sheffield of University, England. He is
particularly known for his work on the Jodrell Bank radio telescopes; the first of these was the largest fully
steerable radio telescope in the world on its completion in 1957. Other projects he was involved in designing
include the Goonhilly Satellite Earth Station 's aerials, one of the earliest telecobalt radiotherapy units, Sri
Lanka's tallest building, and the rebuilding of Robert Stephenson’s Britannia Bridge after a fire. He won
the Royal Society’s Royal Medal and the Wilhelm Exner Medal.

Fritz Leonhardt (12 July 1909 – 30 December 1999) was a German structural engineer who made
major contributions to 20th-century bridge engineering, especially in the development of cable-stayed bridges.
He studied at Stuttgart University and Purdue University. His book Bridges: Aesthetics and Design is well
known throughout the bridge engineering community. His major structures include the Cologne-Rodenkirchen
Bridge, Stuttgart Television Tower, Hamburg’s Alster-Schwimmhalle and various cable-stayed bridges in
Dusseldorf.
He also worked on the design of several cable-stayed bridges abroad, including the Pasco Kennewick Bridge
(1978) in the U.S., and the Helgeland Bridge (1981) in Norway.
