b) The calibration of the densitometer and checking of the Secondary density strip shall be as follows.
ASNT CP-105-2011 ASNT Standard Topical Outlines For Qualification Of NDT Personnel
a) The densitometer calibration shall be done by step wedge calibration film, traceable to a national
standard step tablet. The step wedge calibration film shall have been verified within the last year
by comparison with a national standard step tablet unless, prior to first use, it was maintained in
the original light -tight and waterproof sealed package as supplied by the manufacture.
Step wedge calibration films may be used without verification for one year upon opening, provided
it is within the manufacturer's stated shelf life.
b) Select any position for reaching the neutral density closest to 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 on the step
wedge comparison film (which is traceable to National Institute of Standards and Technology) and
adjust the densitometer.
c) The densities closet to 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 shall be read and the density reading should not vary
more than 0.05 from the actual density stated on the density strip. If any of this density vary
more than 0.05 densities then, it should be corrected and re calibrated.

"uncontrolled" and due should be taken to ensure no obsolete revisions are used.
a) The density ranges of secondary density strips shall be checked on the calibrated densitometer
and shall be recorded.
a) Periodic calibration verification check as described above in 2.3 should be performed at the
beginning of each shift, after 8 hrs of continuous use or after change of apertures, whichever
comes first.
b) If the verification readings are within 0.05 of the values marked in the calibration document, the
equipment is ready for use. If not it has to be corrected and re calibrated.
c) These calibration verification readings do not have to be recorded, as the function is to ensure the
operator that, he is using the calibrated instrument.
d) If periodic verification after 8 hrs as per para (4.1) shows a variation greater than 0.05 density,
as, then all the radiographs examined since the last acceptable density check have to be subjected
to re verification for density after the densitometer is re calibrated.
a) Calibration of densitometer shall be performed by Level – III or by the official authorized by him.
b) The densitometer shall be calibrated w.r.t. step wedge calibration film at least every 90 days
during the use.
c) The secondary density strip shall also be calibrated w.r.t. Calibrated densitometer at least every 90
days during the use.
d) A calibration sticker has to be put showing the serial number of the densitometer, calibration
validity and the signature of the official who has calibrated the densitometer.
e) The above calibration records shall be documented and the same are to be retained for a period of
one year.
