MID-TERM EXAMINATION

CLASS – IX
Time Allotted : 3 Hours Maximum Marks : 80
General Instructions:
 The question paper comprises four sections A, B, C and D. There are 37 questions in the
question paper. All questions are compulsory.
 Section – A – question no. 1 to 23 - all questions and parts thereof are of one mark each.
These questions contain multiple choice questions (MCQs), Case-studies and assertion -
reason type questions. Answers to these should be given in one word or in one sentence.
 Section – B – question no. 24 to 28 are short answer type questions, carrying 2 marks
each. Answers to these questions should be in the range of 30 to 50 words.
 Section – C – question no. 29 to 33 are short answer type questions, carrying 3 marks
each. Answers to these questions should be in the range of 50 to 80 words.
 Section – D – question no. 34 to 37 are long answer type questions carrying 5 marks each.
Answers to these questions should be in the range of 80 to 120 words.
 There is no overall choice. However, internal choices have been provided in some
questions. A student has to attempt only one of the alternatives in such questions.
 Wherever necessary, neat and properly labeled diagrams should be drawn.

SECTION – A
Question No. 1 – 4 contain five sub-parts each. You are expected to answer any four
subparts in these questions.
1. Read the following and answer any four questions from 1 (i) to 1 (v).
When an object moves along a straight line with uniform acceleration, it is possible to
relate its velocity, acceleration during motion and the distance covered by it in a certain
time interval by a set of equations known as the equations of motion. There are three
such equations. These are:
I) v = u + at
II) s = ut + ½ at2
III) 2 a s = v2 – u2

where u is the initial velocity of the object which moves with uniform acceleration a for
time t, v is the final velocity, and s is the distance travelled by the object in time t. Eq. (I)
describes the velocity-time relation and Eq. (II) represents the position-time relation. Eq.
(III), which represents the relation between the position and the velocity.
i) A ball is thrown vertically upwards. It rises to a height of 50 m and comes back to the
thrower, we can conclude that:

2. Read the following and answer any four questions from 2 (i) to 2 (v).
A pure substance may be defined as a single substance (or matter) which cannot be
separated by simple physical methods. Pure substances can be further classified as (i)
Elements (ii) Compounds. A mixture consists of two or more substance in any
proportion. A mixture can be separated into pure substances using appropriate separation
technique. All the mixtures containing a solid and a liquid are separated by one of the
following processes:

Living cells consist of a selectively permeable plasma membrane, the nucleus and
cytoplasm. The plasma membrane allows the movement of substances by the process of
diffusion. The nucleus plays a crucial role in controlling hereditary characters. Cell
organelles are present in the cytoplasm that carry out different functions in the cell. Plant

cells and animal cells have specialized structures for carrying out vital functions like
nutrition, excretion, osmoregulation, etc.

Animal cells and plant cells have different cellular structures. Hence, plant tissues and

sedentary lifestyle and to allow growth from specific points of the body whereas animals
need to search for food and they continue to grow till a certain age. The classification of
plant and animal tissues are hence different from each other.
