GENERAL INFORMATION

Science week is an annual event held by The Science Department of Kesatuan Bangsa
School. The aim of this event is to give students a chance to develop their soft skills, including
communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking skills, especially in the field of
science.
Science week 2022 will be held on 24-29th of January 2022 for Kesatuan Bangsa
students and the public. There are several activities during the events, such as fun science fair,
competitions for students, and webinar. In the science fair, students will have to present their
project about chemistry, biology, and physics. The competitions are conducted both online and
offline so that every student has the same opportunity to join as the school is still applying hybrid
learning. The webinar will be opened for the public. The speakers are Dinas Pendidikan Bantul
and science lecturer from FMIPA UNY with a theme of science research.

EVENT BREAKDOWN
1. Treasure Hunt
- A class competition for SMP and SMA.
- Each class delegates at least 2 students.
- A map with science-related questions will be shared to all participants.
- The answer to each question will be a number. Those numbers represent how many
steps you have to go.
- Be the fastest to find the treasure box and win the prize.
- Hunting day: Monday, 24th January 2022 1.00-3.00 PM.

2. Blooket Competition
- An individual competition for SMP.
- Be the top scorer by answering correctly questions related to physics, chemistry, &
biology).
- Let's join the online meeting on Tuesday, 25th of January 2022 1.00-2.00 PM.

3. Baamboozle Competition
- A class competition for SMA.
- Each class delegates a group of 3 students.
- Register your group to your homeroom teacher.
- Answer correctly questions related to science (physics, chemistry, and biology).
- Let's join the online meeting.
● Preliminary round on Tuesday, 25th of January 2022 1.00-3.00 PM.
● Final round on Wednesday, 26th of January 2022 1.00-3.00 PM.

4. Stick Bridge Competition

- A class competition for SMP and SMA.
- Work together to build your strongest bridge made of popsicle sticks and glue. The
bridge should resemble a real bridge, using the concepts used in making them.
e.g. Holes in a bridge to let crosswind through.
- Each bridge would be tested on its strength, how much weight it can hold.
- Bridges would be tested by holding weight hung from the midpoint of the Bridge.
- Strength testing day: Thursday, 27th of January 2022
- Further details and rules regarding bridge construction parameters and limitations
o Bridges must only be built using popsicle sticks and glue. Addition of extra
materials would result in instant disqualification.
o Bridges must be more than 40 cm long but mustn't exceed 80 cm long.
o Bridges must have a width of at least 10 cm.
o Bridges must have a height of at least 5 cm.
5. Fun Science Fair
- A class competition for SMP and SMA.
- Each class delegates 1-2 groups, each consists of 2 students.
- Present your project related to physics, chemistry, or biology.
- Project exhibition day: Friday, 28th January 2022 13.00-15.00 WIB

A. Eligibility
● Each class in Grade 7, 8, 10, and 11 may send up to 2 groups for this event.
● Each group consists of 2 students.
● Students who are part of the Science Week Official are ineligible to participate.
● Subjects of the experiment will be assigned to each group by drawing the lot, while the
title will be decided through discussion between the participating team and their
supervising teacher.

B. About the Hands-on Experiment

● The hands-on experiment refers to simple science experiments which were displayed
directly during the exhibition.
● Each group performs 1 experiment on the day the exhibition took place.
● Each group must prepare a standing poster detailing the experiment they conduct.
● Each group must explain the conducted experiments to the visitorst.
● Each group is not allowed to display experiments that are dangerous and risk causing
accidents or chaos.
● All materials and equipment are prepared by participants. You may borrow equipment
from the laboratory by adhering to the lab procedures.

C. Safety guide for Hands-on Experiment

● No hazardous substances or devices (e.g. poisons, drugs, firearms, weapons,
ammunition, and reloading devices, etc.) are allowed.
● No explosives, highly flammable materials, or dangerous chemicals are allowed.

physical burns is not allowed.
● Project sounds, lights, odors, or any other display items must not be distracting
(Exceptions to this rule may be permitted for judging demonstrations. Approval must be
given prior to judging.)
