“Buhos”

Loren Legarda

Senator Loren Legarda produced and presented "Buhos," a documentary about climate change
that explains climate change, how it arises, and how it affects humanity, the environment, and the
world. The documentary debunks global warming by putting it down to everyday life, providing simple
scientific explanations of greenhouse gases and climate change, as well as concrete solutions for dealing
with this potential threat. Climate change as per Legarda is caused by human activities that disrupt the
natural order or generate an instability in our environment. Increasing carbon emissions as a result of
industrialization, as well as the excessive use of transportation and electricity, are among the activities.
Humans have become so reliant on science, technology and its advancement that we have disregarded
about the environment and the pollution it has developed as a consequence of our negligence.

This documentary serves as an eye-opener not only for every Filipinos but for everyone around
the world. All throughout the video, I’ve been reflecting and trying to realize that we are indeed guilty
for what’s happening around us. Environmental disasters as the consequences of all the inhumane and
rubbish activities we do to improve our lives is now hunting us. It made me questioning myself whether
it was all worth the trouble we are facing nowadays. As our lives becomes more comfortable and easier,
it is the environment who is suffering. We depend heavily on technology without realizing that little by
little we are sacrificing the thing we should be protecting and caring for. Technology made everything
easier and it feels like everything we want is within our grasp. Instead of planting trees to develop our
rain forest, we choose to plant industrial establishment. Everything is being commercialized. Everyone is
preoccupied with machinery and technology, oblivious to the natural way of life. The environment is
now giving back all the harm we’ve caused to it.

Living in the modern times does not justify the things we did in exchange for it. Even though we
live in an era where technological advancement is prevalent and new lifestyles have become an
inextricable part of our lives, we must do all we can to mitigate the impact by being a more conscious
individual. In fact, there’s a lot of things we can do to help and it’s not too late to avoid or limit the worst
effects of climate change. Through the utilization of new technologies and many experimentations, we
can try to figure and solve this out together. To begin, we must put an end to all sorts of deforestation.
Instead, encourage people to plant more trees to restore nature's equilibrium. Reduce your household's
electricity usage as well and improve vehicle fuel efficiency. Fourth, invest in renewable energy. Fifth,
minimize the use of plastics in any manner. Furthermore, raise environmental awareness through any
social media platforms. Finally, we should seek for the help of scientists all throughout the world and
unite forces with them in the campaign to save the environment.

We are responsible for all the things that are happening around us. So, for our sake and for the
environment, as well as for the future generations we must act now and do anything we can. In simple
and small acts, we can make a big difference in saving the earth and preventing climate change. We
should try to learn and adapt how to co- exist with the environment.
