BRIEF INTRODUCTION OF THE STUDY

The Covid 19 pandemic took the world by surprise. Everything has to stop, every
action that we use to do have to change. Projects have been delayed, workplace have to close
and school shutdown. People are advice to stay at home to avoid from being infected and
lessen the spread of the virus. Government decided to temporary close educational institutions
to reduce the spread of the virus. However, the students should continue their education. The
education department think of a way to continue education amidst pandemic. Distance and
blended learning become the alternative way to continue education. Cellphones, laptops, radio,
and tv became the weapon of every students to education.

The use of technology in education has an important role and it should be applied
in the learning system. Blended learning is the combination of face to face and online learning
so that instruction occurs both in the classroom and online. Moreover, learning is not only
based on technology but also it is a process of interaction between teachers, students and
learning resources. That is not all learning can be done by online environment. Although e-
learning has several advantages, there is also several limitations. It cannot replace learning in
the classroom. Blended learning integrates the advantage of online learning with some
disadvantages of face to face learning.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBEM/ OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of blended learning model on senior high
school students’ achievement.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES

To determine the effect of blended leaning model on senior high school students’ achievement.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

1.To determine the difference of using blended learning from traditional method of teaching
(face-to-face).

2.To investigate the effect of blended learning model in terms of students’ achievement, in
comparison to traditional instruction.

RESEACH DESIGN

This study used experimental research method. The randomized control group pretest- posttest
design was used.

PARTICIPANTS OF THE STUDY

The population in this study consisted of all students enrolled in the Information and
Communication Technology course at the first grade of SMA Negeri I Lintau Buo 2012/2013
academic year. The study was carried out 63 students. Where 31 of whom were in the
experimental group and 32 were in the control group. In the experimental group (part online,
part face to face), teacher used blended learning as instructional model, while in the control
group, the course was taught based on traditional teaching model.

INSTRUMENTATION/ DATA GATHERING TOOL

Simple random sampling technique were use in selecting the sample. Objective test as research
instrument in form of multiple choice was conducted in collecting the data. Before the test
were given, a trial test including 50 questions was established. After analyzing the question
items which include the validity, difficulty index, discrimination index and reliability, there were
35 questions were used to achievement test. Then, both groups were given the same pretest
and the data obtained were analyzed to look at the students’ initial ability. Furthermore, each
group was treated differently. At the end of the learning, both two groups will equally give
posttest to see the results of the learning model that has been given.

DATA ANALYSIS/ STATISTICAL TOOLS

In this study, T- test for independent sample was conducted.

FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS

Based on the test were given to both of the sample group, the average of learning outcomes in
experimental group was 57.8 for pretest and 82.5 for posttest. While in control group, the
average score was 58.3 for pretest ad 72.9 for posttest. The study showed that the learning
result of experimental group is higher than the learning result of the control group.

COMMENTS/ SUGGESTIONS/ CONCLUSIONS

The score obtained from the learning objective test that applied to the experimental and
control group were compared. The study shows that there is a difference to the learning
outcomes of students, where the average learning result of experimental classis higher than the
control class. Based on the research finding, revealed that the blended learning model
contributed more to students’ achievement than traditional learning model did.

Blended learning can be used as an alternative learning model for teachers in order to support
students’ learning achievement. To implement this model, teachers should develop their
computer and internet literacy rate. The school has the important role to provide training or
workshop for the teachers in applying this model.

PERSONAL LEARNING INSIGHT

Covid 19 changed everything that we used to do, everything has to change to a new normal life.
In the field of education, gone are the days were teachers are using the traditional way of
teaching. The traditional face-to-face becomes modular or blended. But how can we say that
blended learning is more effective than traditional face to face.
After reading the study, we found out (based on the results) that the blended learning
contributed more to students’ achievement. Since the start of blended learning, more students
become knowledgeable in ICT. They are more familiar in different applications that may use in
online learning like google meet and zoom. Even the youngest pupil (kinder) knows how to
operate and join in online learning. Blended learning also enhances the students’ learning
outcome, improves students’ motivation, and it is effective way for achieving learning
objectives.

Education should never stop, we just need to adopt to the new normal life. E-learning allows
the students to learn anytime and anywhere. With the help of technology and proper guidance
of teachers and/or parents, modern-day learning is made accessible, interactive and fun for
students. Now, learning is available to whoever, whenever and wherever the students may be.
It is indeed effective to combine traditional and modern ways of teaching ang learning process
for a better delivery of knowledge which balances interaction between students and at the
same time, develops individual and independent learning.
