1. Introduction:-
The Procter and Gamble Company (P&G) is an American multinational consumer goods
corporation headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio founded in 1837 by William Procter and James
Gamble. It specializes in a wide range of personal health/consumer health, and personal care
and hygiene products; these products are organized into several segments including beauty;
grooming; health care; fabric &home care; and baby, feminine, & family care. Before the sale
of Pringles to Kellogg’s, its products portfolio also included food, snacks and beverages. P&G
is incorporated in Ohio. Jon Moeller is the current Chairman and CEO of P&G.

On April 12, 1837, William Procter and James Gamble start making soaps and candles. On
August 22, they formulize their business relationship by pledging $3,596.4 apiece. The formal
partnership agreement is signed on October 31, 1837.

The Moon and Stars begins to appear in the 1850s as the unofficial trademark of Procter and
Gamble. During the Civil War, Procter and Gamble is Awarded Several Contracts to supply
soap and Candles to the Union Armies.

On 1915, the Company builds its first manufacturing facility outside the United States, in
Canada. Employing 75 people, the plant produces Ivory soap and Crisco. On 1926, in
response to the growing popularity of perfumed beauty soaps, P&G introduces Camay.

Beginning in 1880’s P&G advertised its wares in full-page advertisements in many general-
interest magazines; by 1921, it had become a major international corporation with a
diversified line of soaps, toiletries, and food products; in that year, its annual advertising
budget reached $1 million. In the 1920’s P&G advertised its products on the new medium of
radio, and form 1932 forward was one of the biggest sponsors of daytime serials, which soon
acquired the nickname of soap operas.

Procter & Gamble acquired a number of other companies that diversified its product line and
significantly increased profits. These acquisitions include Folgers Coffee, Pantene, Max
Factors, the lams Company among others.

Procter and Gamble Pakistan headquartered in Karachi, commenced operations in Pakistan in


1991.Our goal was to become the finest global consumer goods company operating locally in
Pakistan. To fulfill this goal, we are serving Pakistani consumers with premium quality brands
including Head & Shoulders, Pantene, Ariel, Safeguard, Pampers and Always that strive to
make everyday lives better. Since its inception in Pakistan, P&G has invested significantly in
Pakistan. In 1944 P&G acquired a soap-manufacturing facility Hub, Baluchistan.

In 2004, a PUR facility was a set up to produce P&G’s water purifying technology. The P&G
Hub plant is the first of its kind in the world. It provides people access to safe drinking water
and is able to export millions of liters across the globe.

Today, the Hub plant is equipped with state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies and quality
assurance processes and systems, reflecting the company’s values of safe, hygienic and ethical
manufacturing practices.

P&G Pakistan has invested more than Rs. 6 Billion in terms of asset, working capital and
market development. With continuous growth and expansion P&G Pakistan has two plants
fully established which is located at HUB Baluchistan and Port Qasim Pakistan. Our
organization employees more than 250 in Pakistan directly and helps create more than 400
jobs indirectly.

P&G also strive to be an employer choice by recruiting and developing the most talented
people. P&G people are the foundation of the Company’s success, developed as a result of a
strong ‘promote from within’ culture. Today, several P&G Pakistan employees are leading
challenging international P&G assignments.

Moreover, P&G runs a strong internship program which is a key source of a talent, fulfilling
80% of the Company’s hiring needs in Pakistan. In recent past P&G has invested $40 million
towards building new fabric and home care plant in Port Qasim Sindh.
