III. Procedure
Teachers Activity Student’s Activity
A. Daily routine

May I request everybody to please stand for we will

have a prayer first, let us pray! Students will recite the prayer.

Good morning, class! Good morning, Teacher Alegria!

Before you take your seat please pick up the pieces of Students will pick up the pieces of paper and arrange
paper under your chairs and arrange your chairs as well. their chairs.

You may now take your seat!

Thank you, Teacher!
May I know who is absent today?
Nobody is absent today ma’am!
Okay, very well!

B. Priming/ Activating Prior Knowledge

1. Drill
Class, find the answer to the following
multi operation mathematical
expression by connecting the
expression in column A to the
corresponding answer in column B.
A B
A B
1 x 13 - (10+3) 100
1 x 13 - (10+3) 100

(2+5) 4 - 8 20
(2+5) 4 - 8 20
5 x 4+(18/2)²-1 0
5 x 4+(18/2)²-1 0

Very good!

2. Review Ma’am, we solve multi operation mathematical

How do we solve multi operation expression by following the rules of PEMDAS.
mathematical expression?
The students will state the answer.
Very Good! Parenthesis, Exponent, Multiplication, Division, Addition
and Subtraction.
And what does PEMDAS stands for?
That is correct! We solve multi
operation expression by following the
operation order of Parenthesis,
Exponent, Multiplication, Division,
Addition and Subtraction. Students will raise their hands.
Ma’am, we hear substitution in basketball, volleyball,
C. Lesson Development etc.

1. Motivation/ Activity Ma’am the player is replaced by another player.

Class, where do we usually hear the
word substitution?

And how do we substitute in

basketball?
That’s right.

Now class, we will be having an activity

called “Sub me in”

Let A=1 H=8 O=15 V=22

B=2 I=9 P=16 W=23
C=3 J=10 Q=17 X=24
D=4 K=11 R=18 Y=25
E=5 L=12 S=19 Z=26
F=6 M=13 T=20
G=7 N=14 U=21

Find the equivalent value of the given words by

Yes ma’am.
substituting the numerical value above to each letter of
the word and adding all the numerical digits.
Yes ma’am, we are ready.
A student will volunteer to answer.
For example
F O R E V E R
L O V E
6 + 15 + 18 + 5 + 22 + 5 + 18 = 89
12 + 15 + 22 + 5 = 54
Do you get it class?

Are you ready class?

J E S U S
Who would like to try the first word?
10 + 5 + 19 + 21 + 19 = 74
Yes ma’am.
LOVE

How about the next word

Ma’am we find the numerical value of the given words.
JESUS
Ma’am we substitute the corresponding value in each
letter.
Very good class, does everyone have the same
answers?
Ma’am we perform the indicated operation, we add all
the value.
2. Analysis
What did we do in our activity?

Correct! And how did we find the value of the given

words?

And then what’s next?

Very good.
Class, when a number is substituted or replace for the
variable in a given algebraic expression, the expression
takes a numerical value. And finding the value is what
we call “Evaluating the Algebraic Expression”. Ma’am we substitute the given value of equation

Let’s do this example; A student will volunteer to substitute of x

Evaluate 6x² + 3 when 6(0)² + 3 =
a. x = 0
b. x = -2 We perform the indicated operation
c. x = ½ Ma’am we follow the rules of PEMDAS
For letter a, how do we evaluate?
What should we do first? A student will volunteer to answer
6(0)² + 3 =
Correct! Can someone show us how to substitute the 6(0) + 3 =
value of x in our equation? 0 +3=3
Very good!
Now what is the next step? Another student will volunteer to answer
6x² + 3 =
Since we got here a muti operation equation, what 6(-2)² + 3 =
should we do? 6(4) + 3 =
24 + 3 = 27
Excellent! Can someone demonstrate on how to apply
the rules of PEMDAS in our equation? Another student will volunteer to answer
6x² + 3 =
6(1/2)² + 3 =
That is correct! 6(1/4) + 3 =
Now for letter b, x = -2 6/4 + 3 =
Who would like to try following the same steps? Following the rules in adding dissimilar fractions.
6/4 + 12/4 = 18/4 or 9/2

And for the last example, x = 1/2

1. Substitute the given to the variable

2. Perform the indicated operation by following the
rules of PEMDAS.

3. Abstraction

Now class, in evaluating algebraic expressions, what are

the steps that we need to follow?

Very good!

4. Application

Now that you already know how to evaluate algebraic

expressions, we will be having a group activity. I will
divide you into two groups. Each will choose their
leaders. The leader will be the one who is responsible
for dividing the task between the members of the
group.
Each group will be given an activity envelope where you
will find the materials for the activity and the
expressions that your group will be going to evaluate.

Now,the group activity will be scored according to this

standard.
