D. Discussing new Discussions/Analysis
concepts and a. What are the different harmful materials?
practicing new skills #2 (flammable/combustible, poisonous and toxic, explosive/reactive materials, and
corrosive materials)
b. Where do you commonly find these materials?
(at the house, in school, and in the community)
c. How are these harmful materials used at home?
(Muriatic acid is as used as antiseptic: Dry cell produces energy: Bygon is
used to kill insects: glasses are used as decoration, cooking and drinking
purposes, etc. and the other materials are used as pesticides, fertilizers.
d. Can you give another example of harmful materials used in school, and in the
community based on their properties?
(Flammable- kerosene oil; Poisonous- latex; Explosive- epoxy; Corrosive- sulfuric acid;
Fragile- glasses)
e. What conclusions can you draw based on your output?
(Based on the output or on the activity, we found out that these objects are useful but they
can be harmful also if they are not used, stored and disposed properly.)
f. What are the consequences that we can get from not using these things properly or even
in storing and disposing them? Why?
(Aside from the poison and diseases that we can get from these materials, we might lose
everything specially the life of our love ones because if we don’t know how to cure or
give first aid to the victim they might die. If we leave the house where the matches are
within the reach of the children, there might put the house on fire.)
g. As pupils, what possible solution can you make to avoid the harmful effects of these
materials?
(To avoid the harmful effects of these materials, we must observe the different safety
precautions in using, storing and disposing them.)
