LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 10

Date: February 19, 2020

Time Allotment: 50 minutes

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:


a. Identify the type of verbal used in the sentence.
b. Use verbal in making a personal reflection about the importance of health
towards the 2019 Novel Corona Virus.
c. Construct sentences using the types of verbal.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Verbals ( Gerund, Infinitives, Participle)


Reference: Essential English 10 pg. 273 to 280
Materials: Visual aids of the topic, Chalk

III. PROCEDURE

A. Preliminary Activities
 Prayer
 Greetings
 Checking of Attendance

B. Motivation/Activity

The teacher will post sentences on the board. The students will explain the
difference of the two sentences posted.

The Janitor waxed the floor. The Janitor accidentally slipped on the
waxed floor.

Process questions:
1. What have you observed from the sentences constructed?
2. What do you think is the use of the word waxed in the first sentence? How
about in the second sentence?

C. ABSTRACTION

Verbal is a verb form used as a noun, adjective or adverb. The three kinds of
verbals are participle, gerund and infinitive.

A participle is a verbal used as an adjective. It modifies a noun or pronoun.


Present participles end in -ing. Past participles often end in -d, -ed, -t, or en.

A gerund is a verbal used as noun. Gerunds can be used as subjects, direct


object, object of preposition, predicate nominatives and appositives. The gerund
end in -ing.
An infinitive is a verbal used as a noun, adjective, or adverb. The infinitive is
usually preceded by the word to.

D. APPLICATION

The students will be divided into 4 groups. Each group will be given verbal
words to use in constructing sentences. Each group will choose a representative to
present their output in front.

E. GENERALIZATION
 How verbal do differs from verb?
 What are the three types of verbals?
 What are the functions of a gerund?
 What is the function of participle?
 What are the functions of infinitive?

IV. EVALUATION

Direction: Identify the type verbal used in the sentences whether it is gerund, participle
or infinitive.
