FORMAL COMMUNICATION
It refers to a communication that exchange information from different levels of organization hierarchy
conform to prescribed professional rules, policy standard process and regulations of the organization. It
is also called official communication. It follow a proper channel of communication and control
deliberately.

Examples:
Request, reports, orders, commands etc.

INFORMAL COMMUNICATION
The informal communication is unofficial communication between individual and groups without
conforming the prescribed rules, process system, formalities and chain of command.

Examples:
Casual discussions, gossips, sharing of feelings, etc.

Advantages of formal communication


a) Smooth communication system
Formal communication flow through pre-determined channel and everyone know how and where to
send message. Therefore, not face any problem to flow.
b) Increase efficiency
Formal communication overall increase of the management as organizational procedures and rules are
need to be followed always.

c) Permanent record
Formal communication are kept permanently such as letters, reports, and memos. It help in future
decisions making.

d) Discipline
Formal communication develop the discipline in the mind of employs in any organization.

e) Less errors and mistakes


In formal communication less chance of the mistakes and errors due to maintain all formalities of the
communication.

f) Coordination of the work


Formal communication provide the scopes of coordination among different departments and functions
of organization.

g) Reliability
Formal communication is more reliable and credible for the sending important issues like objectives,
orders, directions etc.

LINEAR MODEL OF
COMMUNICATION
In linear model communication is one way process where sender is the only one who send message and
receiver does not give response or feedback. The message signal is encoded and transacted through the
channels in the presence of noise. The most important and linear model is sender. Linear model was
founded by Shoman and Weaver and after later adopted by David Berlo into his own model called as
SMCR (source, message, channel, receive). It applied on mass communication like radio and television.

Transitional Model of Communication


It refers the communication model as a two way process of communication with immediate feedback. It
is also called circle model of communication. Feedback is essential component in this model of
communication. The feedback is direct and very fast.
Interactional Model of Communication
Interactional model of communication is a two way method of communication with feedback. In this
model, feedback provides indirect and slow. Interactional model of communication indicates mediate
and internet based communication.

Aristotle Model of Communication


Aristotle model of communication consists of speaker, speech occasion, audience and effect.

Aristotle develop linear model of communication in 300 B.C It main focus on the speaker and message. It
was the first model of communication. The communication process of the Aristotle model is speaker,
speech, occasion, audience and effect. The speaker plays most important role in the communication
because the speaker sets the message to deliver.
