POWER SYSTEM ANALYSIS

• ASSESSMENT 2 Part B
• Marks 16
• Duration: 150 Minutes
• Date: 01/11/2021
• 10.10 am to 12.40 am

•Assume values if needed, Document assumptions.

•Each page should have your name and roll number at the top.
•Check that the question paper has all four questions.
•Use drawings appropriately.
•Fill the following table before proceeding further.
•Let this table be at the Top of the first page of your answer script.

•Calculate A= mod(Numerical Equivalent of third letter of your name, 3)+1;

•XX=0.1+ last two digits of your roll number/100+Y/100.
•Y=Numeric equivalent of the third alphabet of your name.
•The numeric equivalent of alphabets can be considered as {A=1,B=2,C=3….Z=27).

Question TWO
• A. What is a fault? How it affects the power
system? (3)
• B. Classify fault (1).
Question THREE
• A generator is connected to a synchronous motor
through a transformer. The sub-transient
reactance of the generator and motor are 0.15pu
and XX pu, respectively. The reactance of the
transformer is 0.1 pu. All reactances are
connected in a common MVA base. A three phase
fault occur at the motor terminals when its
terminal voltage is 0.9 pu. The output current of
the generator prior to fault is 1pu and 0.8 lagging.
Find the sub-transient current in pu in fault,
motor, and the generator. Use terminal voltage of
the generator as the reference vector.
Question 4
• The bus impedance matrix of a three bus
power system is shown below. If a 3 phase
fault occur at bus A, find the symmetrical
current in
in fault,
fault in
in line
line 3-2
1-3,and
and post fault
voltages in all the buses. The fault impedance
is 0.
