PART B: Design infographic.
Upload your assignment into your google classroom.
DUE DATE : 1st OCTOBER 2021

PART A: STRUCTURED QUESTIONS

Answer all questions.
1. (a) TABLE 1 shows the proton number of elements A, B, C and D.
TABLE 1
Element A B C D
Proton number 8 9 11 12

i) Write the electronic configuration for each of the elements and arrange
these elements in increasing order of atomic radii. Explain.
[ 3 marks]

ii) Compare the radius of each atom with its corresponding stable ions.
[2 marks]

(b) Consider the following ions: O2-, F-, Na+ and Mg2+.

i) Arrange the ions in order of decreasing ionic radii.

[1 mark]

ii) Describe the variation in the ionic radii in b(i).

[3 marks]

Predict whether the ionic radius of P3- is larger or smaller than Mg2+.
[1 mark]
2. (a) Analyse the variations in the first ionisation energy for the following elements:

11Q, 15R, 17S, 19T

[4 marks]

(b) FIGURE 1 shows the plot of log10 ionisation energies against the number of
electrons being removed from element X.

FIGURE 1

Explain the increase in the successive ionisation energies of element X.

[1 mark]

(c) TABLE 2 shows the successive ionisation energies of element Y, an element in the
third period of the periodic table. Deduce the group and write the electronic
configuration for element Y.
