Your PowerLab

This is what the front of your PowerLab looks like. Circle where you would look to see if your PowerLab is 1 pts
turned on.

The Isolated Stimulator passes a pulse of current through the volunteer's skin (for example, to make a muscle twitch).
A green light indicates that the stimulator is delivering a pulse. What would it mean if the OOC light  ashes yellow?

The current is not owing properly.

The current is too high.
The switch is not turned on.

The switch turns the Isolated Stimulator on and o . Can you connect stimulating electrodes to yourself?

Which of the following electrical signals can be recorded with the Bio Amp and which cannot?

Measuring signals

What signal does the pulse transducer "transduce" into an

electrical signal?

The changes in force generated by the contraction

and relaxation of the heart.
The changes in pressure from pulsatile blood ow
in the arteries.
The sounds of the heart valves closing.

The Pulse channel shows the raw data signal which is coming directly from your volunteer's nger.
The Heart rate channel has a channel calculation applied to it, so the signal you see is calculated based
on the raw data.

Why would there be a lag between the raw data signal and the channel calculation signal that you see on
screen?

There is a lag time between the raw data signal and the channel calculation signal due to the fact that the system
itself needs time to be able to read the raw data before it is able to calculate the number of beats. It is considered a
processing time.

Based on what you have seen today, why do you think it would be advisable to record the heart rate for 60 1 pt
seconds rather than for a shorter duration (for example, 15 or 30 seconds)?

It is best to record a heart rate for 60 seconds rather than a short duration because it allows for a more accurate result,
providing more accurate average beats per minutes. This is necessary if the person has an irregular heart rate because
it will allow for a better interpretation of the heart rate.
