8. Perform Finalization steps
1.6 Procedure
1.6.1 Pre-Requisites/Prep info
Inform the customer that the software upgrade may result in loss of use of research software or
hardware installed on the MR system. The customer needs to work with the GEHC Research
Support team (esesupport@mr.med.ge.com).
1. Please note that the SSA license will have to be generated while at customer site. Please be
prepared with the following before starting the software upgrade:

○ Apply for and obtain Removable Media Exception Request for Digital Guardian via http://
idm.ge.com for your laptop.
This exception is needed so that the license generated can be transferred from Laptop
onto a USB Stick or DVD

○ Complete GE Learning Course for MR SSA GEHC-MR-SYS-689750_CURR

○ Order & obtain SSA Class M Service Key Part#: 5431898-3
○ Initialize the Key on SSA website for MR modality
○ The 16 digit Code (Service License ID) will be generated on the host computer only after
SV25.1 Apps s/w load
This License ID will be needed to generate the soft licenses for the site on SSA website
This operation will require you to access http://ssa.gehealthcare.com
Ensure there is network connectivity at site before starting travel

○ The Service License ID is case sensitive. Please exercise extra caution while entering
this ID on the SSA website to generate the soft key
2. The VPN route and gateway information for insite configuration will not be restored because
of the IIP Model Type change from earlier software as compared to SV25.1. Hence note
down all insite specific configuration information before starting the software load procedure.
The data can be accessed from the Common Service Desktop, by selecting Configuration >
Guided Install > FE Mode > Service SW/InSite > Config InSite IIP. Click each IIP
Configuration tab, and record the data in the blanks below. This data can be entered
manually after the software application load.
Default Gate Way IP Address: _____. ______. ______. ______
Verify with the Customer/GE network support that port 22 on the router is open. With
SV25.0, MR has moved over to a more secure form of network communication, SSH
protocol, which requires port 22 to be open.
1.6.2 Prepare for Software Load

Chapter 2 Appendix
1 Service Licensing
1.1 Overview
Secure Service Access (SSA) is a secure service key platform for GE medical devices
developed to improve the service license renewal and replacement processes. The SSA license
is a softkey (software file) for GE service tools and information. This license is assigned to one
specific system and can be downloaded by GE customers or service providers.
GE field engineers receive a hardkey (USB drive) service license, providing access to
proprietary service tools and documentation. Field engineers may also be asked to help
customers request or renew their service license softkey.
Multiple service license levels are available to manage access to different features, tools, and
service methods. Contact your local GE service or sales representative for more information.
Sites must generate and install a service license for the following reasons:
• New system Installation

• Software upgrade

• GOC component hardware replacement

• System date or time change

• System language change

1.2 Access Service License ID (16-Digit Code)

NOTE: The system language must be decided before getting the service license ID. If the
language is changed on the system, it will also change the 16-digit Service License ID
assigned to the system and cause the existing license to fail.
To request a service license, you need the unique 16-digit code, called a Service License ID,
that is assigned to the system. This ID is needed to configure and activate a service license
softkey. It is a unique ID, meaning each system has a different code.
To access the Service License ID, go to the operator console, click the drop-down arrow on the
Tools icon, and select Install Service License. The Service License information window displays,
containing the Service License ID.
NOTE: The numerical character for zero is a circle with a dot in the center (⊙). Be careful
when recording your service license ID because zeros can be mistaken for the letter
O, and vice versa. The uppercase letter O and the lowercase letter o do not have a
dot in the middle.

Illustration 2-1: Example of Service License Window

NOTE: This example displays each level of service class license. Only the service license
level available for a given system will display in that system’s window.
1.3 Order Service License Softkey (Systems Not Under GE Service Contract)
To request a service license softkey, the customer must contact the local GE service center by
telephone. The telephone number can be found on the system tag. The local service center
collects the site information and forwards the request to the regional representative for approval.
When calling, the customer must have the following information ready:
• Customer name and location

• System identification number

• Service License ID

28 1 Service Licensing
SIGNA Creator / SIGNA Explorer Software Upgrade Instruction (SV25.0 to SV25.1)
Direction 5746775-1EN, Revision 3

• Email address where the softkey should be sent

After the request is submitted, the license is typically approved by the regional representative
within three business days. Load the license softkey on the system as described below.
For urgent situations, a temporary 3-day license can be requested from GE Online Center for
use during the waiting period.
The service license softkey expires in one year from the date created. The GE field engineer is
not responsible for customer service license renewal after warranty.
1.4 Load Service License Softkey
1. After the request is approved, an email is sent to the email address provided with the
request. Use the email link to download the license softkey.
2. To transfer the software license file to the system, save the license on either a USB stick or
DVD.
Multiple license softkeys can be saved to the same USB stick or DVD.
3. To access the Service License ID, go to the operator console, click the drop-down arrow on
the Tools icon, and select Install Service License.
4. Insert the USB stick or DVD where you saved the license softkey, and select [CD/DVD] or
[USB].
The system will automatically load the correct license softkey for a given system ID.
5. Select the language for the system.
The system language must be decided before getting the service license ID. If the language
is changed on the system, it will also change the 16-digit Service License ID assigned to the
system and cause the existing license to fail.
If the 16 digit code has changed and the existing license will not work, go to the SSA
Support Central website (http://supportcentral.ge.com/@ssakey) and open a case.
6. When the installation is finished, eject the USB key correctly (using the Eject button) so it
does not become corrupted.

NOTE: If a softkey has unexpectedly stopped working, check the time and date on the
system. If the date or time has been changed, this causes the softkey to stop working.
Change the date and time back to the previous setting to correct the issue.
1.5 Create or Renew Softkey for Customers
This procedure is for field engineers assisting customers in requesting or renewing a service
license softkey.
NOTE: GE FE personnel are not responsible for renewing customer licenses if the customer
no longer has a GE service contract.
1. Go to the SSA website (http://ssa.gehealthcare.com). Log in with your SSO and password.
2. Request a new or renewed softkey:

4. When the form is complete, click [Create License] or [Renew License]. Based on the
selection for Delivery option, the license is delivered by email or direct download to your
laptop.
1.6 Register Service License USB Hardkey for Field Engineers
GE Field Engineers receive a hardkey service license on USB drive. This is not the same as the
customer softkey.
To register and initialize your hardkey SSA license, complete the following requirements:
• Have a valid GE SSO. If you do not have a GE SSO ID and are providing service on GE’s
behalf, contact your regional representative and go to the SSO Registration Application site
(https://www.ge-registrar.com/gecentral/register.jsp?ditbranch=200).

• Obtain a hardware key (USB drive) from GPRS.

• Complete SSA training on the SSA Support Central site.

• Register as a valid user of the SSA platform. Go to the SSA website (http://
ssa.gehealthcare.com) and confirm that you have access for the MR modality (and any
other modality for which you have been trained). If you do not have access to the SSA
website, go to the SSA Support Central website (http://supportcentral.ge.com/@ssakey) to
request access to modalities for which you have been trained.

• Service license identification information.

Be sure to always remove the USB key correctly (using the Eject button) so it does not become
corrupted.
NOTE: If a hardkey has unexpectedly stopped working, check the time and date on the
system. If the date or time has been changed, this causes the hardkey to stop
working. Renew the hardkey to correct the issue.

1.7 SSA Support and Troubleshooting

Go to the SSA Support Central website (http://supportcentral.ge.com/@ssakey) to access
training, troubleshooting, and guides.
This site contains information about how to solve potential issues, like the FE cannot initialize
the SSA hardkey on his laptop due to incorrect Java settings.
The SSA User Guide is available on the SSA Support Central website. This guide covers topics
such as:
• Registering as a SSA user

• Configuring a hardware key

• Activating a hardware or software key

• Requesting a temporary license

• Initializing a hardware key

• Using a key on a medical device

• Renewing a service key

• Reprogramming a system

• Troubleshooting

1.8 FAQ and Potential Issues

Generate SSA License button through ISD does not reinstall if it expires.
If the OLE generated a 2 hour OLC SSA License key, and support extends greater than 2 hours
and the license expires, the OLE must close the Telnet session, re-connect to the site, then click
the SSA button again.
The 16-digit code will change with the language of the system.
Before generating any SSA soft license key, confirm that the system is set to the final language
configuration that will be used at the site.
Date/time tampering
The SSA key will become invalid if the system clock is changed in an attempt to try to extend
the life of an SSA license. Any attempt to backdate the system date/time will lock the system
(the SSA license will be invalidated). To recover, perform a LFC. A time change tolerance limit
of 45 minutes for OLE license is applicable if NTP is not configured on the system, and the
system time is in the past. Standard and Daylight Saving changes are not affected.
Before the OLE can use a 2 hour OLC SSA key, the system information must be in the back-
office database.
The Field Engineer must enter the back office information during the system installation or
upgrade, using the standard process so that the OLE can use a 2 hour OLC SSA key. If the FE
has not created a soft license for the system and requires OLC support, the OLE must manually
create a temporary key using the Create softkey by admin option.

Direction 5746775-1EN, Revision 3

SSA back office uses GMT UTC standard time.

If you generate a temporary license, the expiration time corresponds to UTC time, not the local
time.
Due to special behavior of the OLC SSA license, specific steps must be followed, or the service
key icon on WavDisp will be missing, the FE Cockpit will not display, and emulation will not
work. Follow these steps for correct access:
a. Connect to the machine via ISD, telnet.
b. Launch CSD Redir (CSD displays according to the license installed at the site).
c. Select [SSA License] to install the temporary OLE license with Class M capability.
d. Refresh the CSD Redir or navigate to a different tab.

3 Check Scan
The following describes a workflow to follow when you need to perform a basic scan, such as a
“goodbye scan” or “check scan”. It uses the 3-plane 2D localizer scan, which is relatively simple
to set up and perform.
Other scans may involve additional setup and configuration. If you choose to use a different
scan, consult the Operator Manual for the system you are using. The 3-plane localizer scan
using the DQA phantom gives the best confidence of correct system functionality by showing
correct image geometry and orientation. This is especially useful if work performed involved
disconnecting and reconnecting gradient related components.

4.2 Overview
This procedure describes how to generate and install software options using eLicense. eLicense
allows the field to generate license keys for MR scanners, and removes the need to send out
physical media for all options on the order. The first step in creating these option keys is to visit
the eLicense website, and register the scanner. In order to access the eLicense website, the
user must have a computer with connectivity, as well as a single sign-on account. The eLicense
website can be accessed outside of the GE intranet, at http://elicense.gehealthcare.com/
elicense/. The MR system must be tied to the global order number (GON), through the host id
and system id of the scanner. Once this site information has been entered, the keys can be
generated, and distributed by email, downloading, saving to an eCD, or printing. This file can
then be installed on the system, through inSite download eCD, or manual entry. Illustration 1-1
shows the eLicense process flow. For additional information on how to generate and obtain
these keys from the eLicense server, please refer to the “eLicense User Guide” under the HELP
tab of the eLicense website.

4.3 Procedure
4.3.1 Create Licenses
This feature is used to create option keys for a new or existing system based on an order. To
create new licenses, the user must have the order number(s) that contain the options ordered,
as well as the host id and system id of the system. The host id is the MAC address of the
network card.
4.3.1.1 Obtaining the System’s Host ID
1. Select the[Service Tools Desktop].
2. Select [Guided Install] from the Service Desktop Manager and press [Start…] to open
Guided Install.
3. A command window will open with “Type Root Password” displayed. Type the system’s root
password and then press the [Enter] key. “operator” is the Signa default root password. If,
for your site, the customer has changed the root password, you will have to obtain the
correct root password from the customer.

4. Once the Guided Install window opens, select the Option Keys tab. The host ID will be listed
towards the bottom under the Install Temporary Service Key section. See Illustration 2-9.
Illustration 2-9: GUIDED INSTALL WINDOW WITH HOST ID

5. Another method of obtaining the host ID is to type “sysinfo” at a command prompt. The host
ID will be returned.
NOTE: “hostid” is NOT the valid command to get your Host ID. This will cause an error
when trying to generate keys, due to the incorrect host id. You MUST use the
methods listed above to get a valid id.
4.3.1.2 Adding a System to an Order
1. Go to the eLicense website http://elicense.gehealthcare.com/ and log on using your single
sign-on username and password.
2. From the eLicense home page, enter the order number into the Order Number box and
select [Go]. See Illustration 2-10. This will pull up the order associated with the number
entered from the eOM system. The order number may be a new global order number, or an
FDO number, depending on when the order was placed. This number will be listed on the
packing slip included with the order.

5 Security Levels
To access HIPAA/Security Levels, launch Guided Install from the Service Desktop Manager and
select the HIPAA/Security tab.
The HIPAA security screen is mandatory for SV25.1 and later systems. The HIPAA screen is
optional for all SV25.0 and earlier systems.
There are three different levels of security settings available (below). Typical Security Settings is
the recommended security level unless the customer has system-networked options, such as
FUS, BrainWave (with STIM PC), CADStream, MR Touch, or other third-party devices. In that
case, select Security settings for systems networked to certain optional devices.
Illustration 2-41: HIPAA/Security Levels

Definitions:
• Role-based authorization: It is possible to control access to various system features such as
choosing higher level of SAR, setting custom system preferences, and/or protocol
management and limit it to a specific group of users.

• SAR management: Enables the operator to choose second level SAR while scanning.

66 5 Security Levels

Direction 5746775-1EN, Revision 3

• Edit preferences: Enables the operator to change scan preferences.

• Protocol management: Enables the operator to create, modify or delete protocols.

• Complex passwords: A password must have at least 14 characters, at least 1 number, at

least 1 uppercase character, at least 1 lowercase character, at least 1 special character,
less than 3 consecutive repeating characters.
NOTE: It is possible that the customer changed the default password. If you cannot log in,
contact the customer for the correct password.

• User account management: Customers can add or delete users by selecting [User
Accounts] on the Service Desktop Manager screen.

• Third-party devices: FUS, BrainWave, CADStream and others. If a third-party device does
not work properly with the MR system at the Security settings for systems networked to
certain optional devices security level, follow the normal field escalation process to get this
resolved. The third-party vendor may need to fix their device to match the security standards
that the GE MR system expects.
