Course overview
A variety of skills are required by any individual for the accomplishment of desired goals. One of the
most critical aspects that need to be worked upon is undoubtedly -Effective Communication Skills. At
times, communication is misinterpreted as talking. Communication refers to transmission of messages
comprising sender and receiver, through a channel involving feedback. In today’s nerve wrecking era of
competition, effective communicators perform the task better as compared to others. Presenting your
ideas through spoken language, written document and body language are also the building blocks of the
entire communication process. Dearth of communication skills leads to a maze without an exit. The
main idea behind in the communication process is to make the listener understood what the speaker
wishes to convey, without any degree of uncertainty. Vagueness in the words used, would lead to
misinterpretation of words, resulting in distorted piece of information. Assertive communication should
take place in order to be a good communicator. It is a panacea covering all the aspects one can think of.
An assertive person speaks calmly and confidently exhibiting unequivocal idea behind the message. It
clearly bridges the gap between the speaker and the listener for a win-win situation. Honing
communication skills can act as an effective instrument in order to accentuate one’s ability and thereby
providing the best results. One therefore, needs to transcend himself into paragons of efficiency to cater
the growing needs through effective communication.

To enhance communication skills of the students pursuing higher education, focus should be given on
speaking skills, reading skills, listening skills and writing skills. This bridge course is designed to
sensitize the students about the paramount importance of communication at workplaces. The students
